Hey there! I've been trying to purchase credits and upgrade my membership to a yearly subscription all day, but so far all of my efforts have only returned an error saying "Failed to purchase 1 (credit) : Your card was declined.", and the like.

The card works just fine everywhere else, and is the same card I used to pay for my initial membership earlier this month, but even updating, deleting and re-adding the card info has not changed the outcome...

I'm trying to make these payments from Finland, with a Visa debit card, if any of that is of consequence. This is also the first time I'm trying to buy credits, so I have no baseline for how this should work in a successful situation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can get to reading the new Dungeon Busters!

Since your problem involves money it's probably better if you send an email instead of posting here on the forum: support@j-novel.club

Sounds like your bank is labelling JNC as fraudulent or something. You may need to contact your bank and let them know it's really you.

@sami_tlw I'm having similar problems. I think it has to do with how there's no way to enter cardholder name. Another thing could be when bank wants strong security (additional verification).

Just a quick update on my progress to unravel this thing.

So, I got in contact with my bank after JNC customer support confirmed that the payments were failing due to the bank declining them with the decline code "do_not_honor". The bank's (Nordea in my case) customer support looked into it and found that J-Novel Club has for some reason been added to a list of untrustworthy service providers, aka blacklisted in some capacity.
Why that happened, I have no idea, but I assured them that this is a legitimate and safe online retailer, and they told me they'd take it up to the security department in an effort to get it whitelisted. This will take a few days regardless of what they end up doing, and I'll be contacted when they have more to tell on the situation.

If you're suffering from a similar issue on your end, it might be worth your while to also contact your bank and ask them to whitelist JNC for online purchases. Or if this is something JNC staff itself needs to react to, and someone out there is reading this, consider yourselves informed!

@sami_tlw Thank you for posting about your experiences! We're sorry to hear you have to go through all this trouble.

I asked about it internally, and apparently some banks just automatically ban any online subscriptions that are below a certain volume threshold. So unfortunately, this may not be an issue that we can proactively do anything about :(

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

@myskaros So as not to leave you hanging, the bank customer support did indeed get back in touch with me, and unfortunately they were not able / willing to change the blacklisting at this time. Luckily it seems to only be an issue when using a debit card, so credit card payments should pose no problem.

And rest assured that his wont affect my continued patronage of your books at all. When I get my credit card up and running, I'll probably just sub again with that!

Anyway, I hope this cleared things up for some of the people with similar difficulties.

                  -Best regards,
                  Sami

I have the same issue myself (also with Nordea). Unfortunately, Debit Card is all I have so I'm unable to renew my membership... For now, I guess I'll also contact my bank and see if there's anything that can be done.

Generally speaking if you contact your payment processor and authorize the transaction they'll let it through, but you may need to call them back every once in a while because they'll eventually start declining the payments again.

@jpwong Thanks, I'll do that. I've never had any issues like this so far (aside from some Japanese stores that reject foreign cards), but hopefully I'll be able to have my membership back soon. I need my weekly Great Cleric/Bookworm/Piggy Duke/Der Werwolf fix!

@amakaze If you have access to the security agency that your bank uses for transactions you can tell them directly that you want them to change the restrictions for your individual card. I have had to deal with this myself with several online retailers and I just call the security company directly now.
Also I have told the bank I use that I am more than willing to get a new bank if they are not willing to work with me. It would be a hassle, but they got the point when I pulled half my savings and opened an account with a local credit union.
