Any Buzz Words in a Description that Makes You “Yup” Into Wanting to Binge Read a Series?

@paul-nebeling that’s so not normal lmao.... looks like a Viking to me lol.

So Classroom of the Elite was the most recommended, that’s satisfying to know since I put it at number 1 I think 🤔. Too bad we didn’t get it :( , but understandable. My question is has any huge translation company gotten their hands on the license for it yet?

One tag JNC used for Grimgar was "Party Dynamics" which sounds so much more interesting than most of the other tags to me. I loved the anime so I would've read I regardless, though.

@hyferzftw Ok. She's a blonde dwarf. You can change your hair color with magic, can't you?
(The elf did it.)

Unfortunately, the dwarf tries to dye her hair with human techniques at one point. It... doesn't work and she winds up shaving off the horribly bleached locks. The horror! Imagine how hideous she looks without a beautiful bushy beard.
(I think that's the elf's natural hair color, and it's spectacular! That's why I read the series; Cool Dark Haired beauty is absolutely my favorite buzzword). xD

well when i saw Master of Ragnarok, the key words that made me go yep and not wait, when i was putting stuff on the back burner were valkyrie, Ragnarok, and norse.
anything that has to do with either Gods, Goddess, Monsters, Yokai, and supernatural stuff makes me want to check it out, has long has its not really a horror series but more of an Action or comedy series that is pretty much a defendant yes.

Have you read Battle Divas yet? =]
-
@terrence no, i haven't I was unsure about that one, and i have a lot on my plate to read right now, and it didn't seem that it has that much to do with Norse myths, not like the Master of Ragnarok, and after Justus review i decided to not worry about that one for now.
might go back and read it later but the strongest gamer one sounds more interesting to me.
gaming or games is probably another key word to get me to look at a light novel right away, has long as its not like a horror or death game.

If anyone is ever on the look for stuff in genre / with buzzwords you like, check Syosetu's keyword list.

Here's the Death Game category. I really need to peruse that. The 18+ Syo works I don't believe will be listed here (those have their own site afaik).

I'm the opposite. If I hear gaming, especially if it's a Shounen protag, I'm more hesitant. But if I know the stakes are high, that characters can and will perish, I'm a bit more interested no matter the genre. There aren't too too many death game type novels out there, so it could be a good change of pace for me. Detective stuff could be decent too (though, I prefer if it isn't just murder investigations).
It does seem like LN fans who dislike horror generally like fantasy (which is unfortunate because that likely means less horror from JNC who have the Isekai audience down pat). Dunno why that is. Maybe something to do with people wanting a fantastical escape from reality for the week instead of dread? Of course, there's the opposite, people that watch crime fiction and soap opera to see people (sometimes financially better off) going through more hardships than them. But maybe that group doesn't read LN. I only play Sigmund Freud, I'm not him, lol. 🤷
One of the more popular books in LN I would categorize as psychological horror though too (Empty Box and the Zeroth Maria). The reading group I read it with was not ready for some of the happenings in that, ended up hating it, but I think the LN community is overall positive about it?

Completed.
Luckily, we have a way to search for that too, ha ha. Do you ever look through Bookwalker JP's completed LN list for stuff?

Ongoing I guess would be the negative buzzword.

not really, "Complete" being a positive buzzword has no correlation to "ongoing" being negative.

"Ongoing" combined with "Last release in 2014" is what I mean. T.T
Killed my interest in a few series. Finding out they had... "ongoing" Syosetu pages brought my interest back a bit. So then ongoing became a good buzzword. xD

Kind of as a topic matter, should a label for the j-novel series be "Completed" or something to that nature (the one-shots and series like Paying To Win)? I think that would help define certain series.

Independent female characters with their own personalities and drives that are not always centered around reacting to or pleasing male characters.
Mother characters are a sure way to my heart. Miki Arakawa in "I'm a Genius" has me hooked although I wish we saw more in her head than just reacting to/pleasing her son. I'd like to know more about who she was before she gave birth. Something must have prepared her to bring all the ideas Kouki comes up with to life.
