Let's play a guessing game. What will be licensed in AX?
-
Anime Expo is soon.
It's one of the biggest conventions in US (I don't even live there) and a lot of publishers announce their licenses there.Last year, Yen press announced their weird isekai licenses, Seven seas got Todara and print release of 2 of JNC, Vertical announced Zaregoto 2.
JNC will have a presence this year at AX and Ao Jyumonji-sensei will be there. (Will they announce another series by them?)
Maybe, Seven seas will finally crack down under Aruseus493's constant Gamer request.
Maybe, JNC will announce title from Kadokawa this year (or at least, Hero Bunko)
Sam did mention on Curious cat:are there going to be in the near futur other publisher you will license from ?? to know if i should keep on requesting title from other publisher or no
Yes.
It would be nice to attach a reason with our guess then we come back after AX and see how correct our guess are~
Well, I still need to arrange the thoughts in my mind so I guess later on~
Ah, don't forget that BookWalker is also announcing smth
-
I've already edited your post but just to clarify JNC will NOT have a physical booth, they will hold several panels and autograph sessions with Sensei.
As for my guess I have already said it in the topic but i believe 1 of the licenses will be I, the Demon Lord, Took a Slave Elf as My Wife, but How Do I Love Her?
My Reasoning is: My Gut
-
I suppose this is more of a wish than a guess but I really hope Chivalry of a Failed Knight will get licensed. Now Yen On will not license this since it will all but kill The Asterisk War so it would have to be a Rival company like Seven Seas or JNC. The reason why this would get licensed is the same reason Yen On would not.
-
I think Slave Elf is a lock.
-
@rahul-balaggan Boy I sure hope you’re right. I would prefer that series physically, but I wouldn’t mind a speedy JNC translation either.
-
@drone205 I think Asterisk War is old enough that Chivalry wouldn’t be a direct competitor. If anything it might feed readers who wanted more of the same into AW
-
@rahul-balaggan
I didn't even know it's that popular here xD -
With Ao Jyumonji there, I'll dare to guess that they'll be announcing that other series in the Grimgar setting.
-
I think JNC will license this "Dai Eiyuu ga Mushoku de Nani ga Warui"
They already have Jyumonji-sensei attending the panel so, why not get the other series happening in the same world?Well, if curious cat answer refers to an AX license, I think it might be Ichijinsha or Hero Bunko title~
I wonder if Vertical will annouce something.
I feel like they might announce the rest of Zaregoto (since it's not announced yet)
Maybe, with how they are doing Monogatari events with help of VOFAN, Boukyaku Tantei Series will be licensed?Ah, they also do release things with its anime.
Kizu with the movie
Zaregoto with its OVA seriesMaybe, they will get this:
Babylon
It had an anime announcement recently -
@paulnamida
We are thinking the same thing, I see~
Maybe, it will happen for real -
@bloodygaikotsu I hope so!! I read a teaser of that novel a year ago and it was hillarious. It's completely different to Grimgar, it reminded me a lot of KonoSuba
-
JNC -
Sorcerer Stabber Orphen from To Books. Will be translated by Steiner.
Slave Elf definitely
Perhaps Seirei Gensouki
Something from Hayakawa bunko
Something from TakarajimashaVertical -
Probably rest of Zaregoto -
I feel like that Ideal Sponger Life one will get picked up. But I'm not hedging my bets (I was wrong last time). Publisher is Shutunofomosha... I don't know how viable they are. A lot of posts are requesting their stuff (Next Life, Sevens).
I think another series by the Grimgar author is logical too.
Besides that, I believe Sam hinted at multiple new publishers for AX (he effectively hinted at more than one, so maybe two?). Obviously everyone is hoping for a Kadokawa arm, but SB Creative label (GA Bunko publisher?) and that other Ga like one (GaGaGa Bunko?) would be nice.
Besides that, I'd personally like more Kodansha stuff, especially some school life stuff. I think they have a fairly diverse catalog.
-
I can confirm that there won't be anything from Gagaga bunko. Nothing from Alphapolis either most likely, unless Sam gets a meeting with them very soon and manages to license something before AX. I am also very hesitant about Shufunotomosha. I don't think Sam has gotten in contact with them.
The new publishers I can confirm are To Books and Hayakawa shobo. I also believe J-NC also has access to Ichijinsha titles through Kodansha. Another publisher is Takarajimasha which is just an educated guess.
As for Kadokawa, we might get a Kadokawa title... One that was published there once then moved to another publisher.

@hakomari said in Let's play a guessing game. What will be licensed in AX?:
To Books
Ooh, there's at least one I want from them (the reverse Isekai weight loss one).
@hakomari said in Let's play a guessing game. What will be licensed in AX?:
Hayakawa shobo.
Hayakawa have some good SF in their novel label.
@bloodygaikotsu said in Let's play a guessing game. What will be licensed in AX?:
Do To Books release things digitally?
They feel like a TankobonDefinitely. Their digital versions are on Bookwalker.
-
@hakomari
According to Sam, all Kodansha companies and lines are like separate companies with their own editorial offices so, they don't have any access to Ichijinsha.Do To Books release things digitally?
Also, see this one:
https://curiouscat.me/jnovelclub/post/453966457Hayakawa Shobo doesn't publisher light novels. They have a "Young Adult" line though which is pretty close.
-
@hakomari said in Let's play a guessing game. What will be licensed in AX?:
Takarajimasha
That would be cool tho~
I want a few Takarajimasha titles like Isekai Izakaya "Nobu" & Kimi ni Koi wo Suru Nante, Arienai Hazu Datta -
https://www.novelupdates.com/series/kuma-kuma-kuma-bear/ ? Similar to a few other recent acquisitions
-
My Yen Press guess:
Last time they licensed 5 (3 weird Isekai, spin-off and one SOL/Drama)Well, I'll probably get surprised if DxD or Full Metal Panic! got licensed even though, they had recent anime.
My guess are:
-Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
There's a recent anime announcement and it sounds like it will be their SOL novel for 2019(?)-Mirai no Mirai
C'mon
It's their habit to license movies novelization and I am really grateful for this habit~86
Dengeki Bunko twitter account has been pushing this
Last time, a Kadokawa twitter account's been this annoying over a novel, we got isekai mother novel.
So, it's quite possible~Well, I ain't well-versed Isekais so have no idea what's popular
That's it for now~Kinda want to see Kino no Tabi (vertical got the manga recently so I wonder if YP already put their hands on the novel or the manga acquisition may push them to get the novels) or Gamer get licensed tho
-
For Yen Press? I'm hopelessly predicting
86 (it's very popular, and I think it's got that action / drama / wartime appeal the West craves).
I Hate Getting Hurt, So I Put All My Skill Points Into Defense (just seems to be on a similar trajectory to what Mommy Isekai is on).

If they need wacky, I hope they pick up that Mimic Treasure Box reincarnation one, though that is brand new, so maybe give it time to see if it becomes another Elf Pizza Parlor or becomes a solid length series.
