Helpful Links to Discover Light Novels
-
If you're looking to discover Japanese light novels for requests, or to see what is out in English, here are some helpful links.
Japanese Light Novels:
Bookwalker JP - Bookwalker I find to be one of the easier to use (and fun) web store fronts for light novels. Bookwalker has a lot of resources to find similar titles that may interest you once you've found an individual novel page, like the "Recommended" and "Others Bought / Looked At These".
LN listed by series (popularity):

https://bookwalker.jp/search/?order=release&qcat=3&qtag=42&np=0Syosetu - Syosetu is the Japanese Web Novel site that many (most?) light novelists get their start at. A lot of series run concurrently as free web novels and published light novels. Syosetu has a few helpful resources.
Search (when you find the Japanese name of an LN, and want to see if you can check out the web novel source for free; there's also an Advanced Search):

Keywords (when there's a type of LN you want, but you don't know the term or genre to enter in the search bar):
https://yomou.syosetu.com/search/keyword/Ranking (there's a few list options; you can find the top WN to see what is popular here to figure out what may turn into a light novel in the future):

For English LN, I go to this site to see what there is:

On Goodreads, we have a few Light Novel Listopia. I'll add some good ones later.
I know some people know more about MAL and NovelUpdates than me, so I'll defer to you guys to help me out there. I do sometimes type the Japanese name in Google Search followed by "novel updates" to see if it pops up there. Certainly not all series are on Novel Updates though (and way way less on sites like Goodreads, and much more difficult to search on Goodreads for Japanese titles for some reason). =[

Or just follow publisher, LN blogs and ranking's twitter accounts like me~

If you got some good blogs or Twitter accounts, throw them here. I'm always looking for new follows. =]
I know Seven Seas recommends this Yuri blog's light novel section (no new Light Novel posts since November 2017 though).

I do like using Bookwalker to discover stuff though. Like I said, you can search for completed works so you know something is deemed "wrapped up" by the publisher, not permanently ongoing. LNDB lists some series, but not everything, major focus on novels in translation, and sometimes the total volumes section isn't up to date.
-
I like www.readlightnovel.org as a place to get translations and novelupdates.wordpress.com is also handy.

I just realized LNDB and Novel Updates are different sites... d'oh. And I like LNDB more I think... Has some novel novels, and it's less about fanslations. Like, Sakurako-san and Attacking the Dungeon With My Beautiful Boss are both on there, but they'd never be on NU.
-
Lol, I'm amazed anyone thought of them as the same. NU is less of a database site and more of a fan-translation tracker. LNDB is pretty much completely open for users to add whatever they want. (This can be bad when you get spam and the admin is MIA and no moderators exist.)
