Everyone knows "ASCII Media Works" and their "Dengeki Bunko"
The same company created a regular novels bunko line for general audience, called "Media Works Bunko", written by light novel authors or authors who are affected by them.Basically, they are kinda similar to Kodansha BOX and Faust, but Faust feels really different due to the core authors' influence like NisiOisiN, Nasu, Kouhei Kadono, Ryukishi07, etc.
Media Works Bunko, on the other hand, is full of heartfelt and very humane titles yet with stories that no one but LN authors can come up with.
Keiichi Sigsawa and Gakuto Coda are 2 examples of authors who wrote for Media Works Bunko.However, I am gonna talk about Sugaru Miaki's novel here.
It's the first novel I read for Miaki and it's the reason why I became a fan

Having a single Self Contained story would be really good. Long-running series can have a lot more fluff that does not contribute while a one-shot story needs more focus (Short Stories are even more hyper-focus) and this will not eat away at anyones wallets.

I came across this author while looking around and these look like my type of books. I would love to have more romantic drama novels set in our world picked up. You got my up-vote.

Well, I don't think we might see many of those here since it's regular novels bunko not LN even if it's written by LN authors.but with Seven Seas licensing "I want to eat your pancreas", I think there's a chance to see some of them~

Vertical released a novel recently that is standalone as well, The Dark Maidens.

Vertical has always been regular novel publisher and they still do publish all kind of Japanese novels, mainly mystery and horror.I really advise to check their novels catalog, they have a lot of interesting titles.

@bloodygaikotsu Yeah I’ve read some great stuff through Vertical. Now that I’m laregly digital only, I’m happy to see that they are finally starting to release some digitally too (Dark Maidens I believe came out digitally and I plan to buy it soon to show support).
In all honesty I think I like Japanese mystery and dark suspense at least as much as light novels.

Well, I ain't the biggest fan of e-books, so I never cared about the whole lack of digital Vertical release (even though, I can't read Lala Pipo like this lol).
I am OK with expanding my bookshelves till I make a whole room just for books tbh~Also, I kinda feel like people are misunderstanding Vertical as LN publisher, while they only like have only a few LNs which are related to Kodansha comics titles.
Even Monogatari and Zaregoto ain't LNs (Even though the company sells them to anime fans, they call them novels not LNs)Ah, my local bookstore just emailed me about my Monogatari order arrival but Zaregoto 2 is getting late since the supplier didn't have it at that time (kinda unlucky)

@bloodygaikotsu I move a lot and apartment dwell so about a year and a half ago went minimalist so got rid of what felt like a room of books! I still buy paper sometimes but usually donate them to Good Will charity after I’m done with them and wish I had a personal copy so tend to digital (I have both a Nook and Kindle which I like reading on pretty well so I’m set). That said there is something to be said about paper and if I had unlimited money and space I’d be all about paper still.
Yeah, Vertical is way more than a Light Novel publisher and they really do have a great inventory of books. Hell, I even bought the diet book by that Gainax founder and lost a lot of weight following it, so I’m all about Vertical. They all released early Keigo Higashino, whose good work is some of my favorite mystery stuff. I hope they flourish and stay around for many years to come, even if they never release another Light Novel.

There are many novels I wanna read under Kadokawa's novels lines and Shueisha's.I did post about many regular novels here aside from Hideo Okuda's Kuuchuu Buranko.
