Top Selling Light Novels in Japan 2018
-
I thought this list was pretty interesting. No major surprises, but still nice to see it all parsed in one area.
-
@the-green-death What's depressing is that 9 (maybe all 10) of the entries on the list are Kadokawa.
-
The challenge for JNC is to look for the niche titles. The potential next big things. IMO, they're doing a pretty good job so far.
-
@paul-nebeling Well, doesn't matter if they are kadokawa: they're all already licensed.
-
@sam-pinansky Very true. I'm confident you'll find the next big hit title soon.
-
@paul-nebeling If the Arifureta anime is at least as good as the Re:Zero one, it might prove to be the next one.
-
@legitpancake I had mixed feelings when of heard it was delayed. I'd rather wait and get a quality product though.
I doubt "Sorry, I love Yue." will generate anywhere near as many memes. ;-)
What is JNC's best selling title?
-
Realist Hero still I think.

Licensed Kadowaka doesn’t surprise me anymore than for years Marvel and DC were the only books in the bestsellers list for comics. Then image came along and changed everything. JNC can be like Image but with less Liefeld.
What shocked me most about the list (which was largely stuff to be expected), was that Kagerou Daze was on there. It seems pretty niche here, but obviously has its following in Japan.
-
@the-green-death I hear it's because Kagerou Daze has a strong fanbase in the indie music community, not just light novel fans. They did start from music after all.
-
@shrike_al Ah, that makes a lot sense!
-
Oh I am happy seeing danmachi doing well, a big thing I like in that series is that Bell is not OP as in many other light novels that seem to appeal to delusions of grandeur
