Lets Talk: Monogatari Series
-
In this thread, I would like to talk about the Monogatari Books we have in English, NOT the Anime. This is just a General discussion of the whole series as a whole available in English.
-
The first Discussion point is Bakemonogatari: Part 01: Hitagi Crab
I will let the discussion progress as organically to the next as possible.

I’ve only read that first story but plan to read the rest of volume one soon (I’ve also listened to Kizu on audio). Honestly, I found it decent but not great. The story seemed a little lightweight (sorry Dad joke), and it was a little plodding. I hear it gets better and I have volume 2 also so I’ll read at least that far before giving a thumbs up or down yet.

I've been meaning to read Monogatari. I have ordered the box set, but that won't come in till the end of November.

well, that's just perfect for what this thread is then, you have no future reference when talking about the current story in this thread (with the exception of Kizu though but that's not a problem). I really like the theme of "only YOU can save your self," which the first story captures brilliantly.

@the-green-death I would also read all of Bakemonogatari, so I say get the Part 3 too. Tsubasa Cat (which is the only story in Part 3) is one of the best stories in the series so far available in English. I will say no more than that cause then this will start to break one of the rules I made.

@drone205 Cool, I’ll definitely pick up volume three.

I remember writing an Essay for school about Bakemonogatari, (We had to write about a story we read in class or one that the teacher approved of when we told him what we plan to write for it) for Hitagi Crab I wrote about Hitagi using an avoidance coping measure, specifically Denial/emotional containment which basically is not thinking about the problem or issue. I also wrote about how Araragi both literally and metaphorically shares Her weight at the end of the story, since now that he knows her problem he will share the burden with her.

Update: I had a thought, and my thought was this would probably work more as a general discussion of the series as a whole (available in English) and I make a thread for each of the separate parts of the series ex. (one for Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari, Kabukimonogatari, Hanamonogatari) where we can discuss each one in its own thread and this does not exclude those caught up to the series and those who are starting or in the middle of the series
Edit: Also sorry for all the Unread stuff that just popped up in everyone's unread box
