I have read the English Light Novel four times already, yes all 22 that are currently release and the J-novel 23 parts. I am enameled with this series. I don't understand how there can be 22 volumes translated in to English and there not be as season 2 of the anime.
The stories after the end of season 1 are just as good. The only visual media, the manga, is a slow release. I am longing for a season 2.
I want to thank the author for continuing the story after the marriage. The introduction of the children is a great twist. I am excited to continue reading the tales of this "crazy accident of an accidental god." -
That is the way anime adaptations often go.
In my opinion, Smartphone suffers too much from "edited highlights" in the anime. Few anime can cover every detail of their original novels, but Smartphone took just the parts that were good gags, and left out the story.
A second season could happen, but the underpinnings of making it work are missing.

@someoldguy - I agree. And some people put the anime down, because with just the highlights it feels like Touya had things too easy. It's missing a lot of the scenes where he is training, learning, and testing skills ahead of time before the action so it looks like he hasn't earned his OPness.
It's common these days for LNs and manga to just get the one season as marketing for the books, and many of the anime make the same mistake of cramming in too many volumes and/or leaving out parts that make the story worth reading.
To me, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear is an extreme example - 5 volumes! But Death March also suffered: the anime doesn't convey well that his goal is to have a relaxing vacation as a tourist and play with crafting not be a hero. Master of Ragnarok made it look like Yuuto's only ability was using Google. Abilities Average left out much of the "Mile failing terribly to act average" humor.

Yeah, in the last 5 years the only 2 anime adaptations I have watched that remained truly faithful to source are 'Resturaunt to Another World' and 'I don't like pain so I made a Full Defense Build'. I know that there are other series-'Bookworm' for example- but they never caught me.
On the other hand there have been several series that I tried to watch and dropped cause they were so bad that I couldn't handle the failure storytelling. -
Another series that's faithful is "Grimoire of Zero". Twelve episodes and only ONE book. A few little changes to help the story along, but I thought they were minor.
I would love to see some of these others that way. -
@someoldguy @HarmlessDave Totally agree that they played to much to the gags and not enough to the story. Still, all isn't without hope. The Devil is a Part Timer is getting a second season after all these years. Another long running (and JNC translated) series that got one season of anime, then nothing is Invaders of the Rokujouma. There's no shortage of series that should have gotten a second season nor of series that just keep getting season after season of anime even though they really aren't (IMO) all that good.

You need to remember a lot of these anime are designed to be promotions for their respective LNs. If the anime doesn't move merchandise, it's not really likely that it's going to get another season.

@jpwong I'd say "most" if not "all" are initially intended to boost sales. Kind of goes in a cycle.
- Light Novel or Manga has enough sales (and source material) to warrant making an anime.
- Anime garners enough additional interest in a series to warrant making merchandise.
- Mercenaries sales are sufficient to justify the expense of a second season of anime.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Victory.
Assuming a series achieves step 3, the cycle can repeat until the author literally dies or just burns out and quits writing the series. Of course there are exceptions to all of this, and some of them are considered classics.
A good anime can elevate a series to the heavens. (Think Sword Art Online) A bad anime can doom a series to obscurity. (Eromanga Sensei comes to mind) And then there are series that just keep going, volume after volume, regardless of how bad their anime adaptation was.
Like Smartphone...

It depends a little on the production committee's goals, some series it seems like they're dead set on making 13 episodes and that's it, doesn't matter how well the anime does, or how much it boosts sales. They'll even end it on a bit of a cliffhanger so that if you want to find out what happens, you have to buy the novels.

@someoldguy I understand your point. The flow of the light novel is better than the anime. If there would be a season 2, keeping it close to the light novel would be best.

@c-norman-hocker A second season will have to deal with the plot holes. The anime skipped "Interlude I: The Adventurers" from book one, which showed how nasty Touya could be to people who threatened those he cared about.
That comes back later when someone threatens Leen, and it is a moment that strengthens the idea of her entering the wife line-up. Would they remove that, too?

To answer my own question, the author confirmed a second season of the anime. I am so excited for this announcement. The light novels, in the first arch, were fantastic.

@C-Norman-Hocker Nice to hear. Although I must say I was not really a fan of the Anime adaption. Was happy with the first episode as they were fairly close to the source material. But then they left out more and more of the things that make the books great.

Yes, I said something similar above -- cutting away his crafting and training made it seem like he didn't do anything to earn his power. Not that he lost an arm and an eye and went super-chunni to get it, but he did make an effort.

I'm glad for the season 2 and all but I'm still waiting on the next volume to be translated. Last one came out in October 19, 2022. I'm hoping we will be seeing something sometime this month or next. I'm running out of series that I enjoy to read.

@Lubu195 Coming out in JP in October means we're probably looking at April at the earliest — give 6 months minimum for contract negotiations, but don't be surprised if it takes longer (and do be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't take as long!)

I understand that completely, I can read LNs much faster than all of the publishers can release them.
Three ideas:
Try all of the prepubs and catch-ups including ones that don't sound like they are your cup of tea. You might find a new favorite, and you're already paying for them with your membership.
Post in the General Reading Recommendation Thread here, giving as much info as possible about likes, dislikes, and what you've already tried.
If you have a Kindle, every LN on Amazon has a free sample chapter. You might find something good there too.

The anime kind of ruined the series for me. It looked like he was having it way to easy and all the girls wanted him for shallow reasons (he's young and powerful), but not that he's a good man. It looked like he was playing on easy mode and that's boring.
Some series are hurt by a second season, usually for a rushed story and/or badly written characters. Second season of The Shield Hero was boring, and the ending for Demon Lord was not canon.
Some series are better animated though, Kono Suba is great as an anime but hard to follow as a LN. -

That was my main complaint, which I posted above. The LN is much better about that, you should give it a try the next time it's on catch-up.
