Perry Rhodan Neo Premium?

What is the difference between the Perry Rhodan Neo standard and premium editions?
I bought Vol 1 on Amazon before I found this web site. Was that book they sell a standard or premium edition?
-
@RicBret J-Novel Club only sell the premium versions from their own store, but the bonuses vary from release to release (and sometimes from volume to volume). According to https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/4902/premium-e-book-bonus-contents-list-updated-april-6-2023/8?_=1680809250218 the only premium bonus for Perry Rhodan are the textless colour illustrations. You also get higher resolution for art more generally on the premium releases compared to the Amazon releases (and you get the e-book in a more open format).

@Shiny Thanks very much for clearing that up for me. So the standard issues are what Amazon is selling for a higher (tranlasted from the coin values) price.
While I've got your ear and/or anyone eavesdropping, can the Perry Rhodan Neo books be bought in physical form from J-Novel Club? I heard something about them being available, but I'll be damned if I can find any specifics.

JNC don't sell physical books directly but print versions of some JNC series are available from the usual stores. When they have a physical version JNC normally list it on the entry for the release under the heading physical. I went to https://j-novel.club/series/perry-rhodan-neo and select volume 1's buy button and only see digital copies for sale. I'm guessing this means that JNC is not currently offering a print version.
I just did a Google search and according to this blog post it appears that Ace Books published English translations of the original Perry Rhodan in English between 1969 and 1977. It's out of print but old copies might be available on eBay. I've never read them so can't comment on the quality of the translation but please be aware that JNC are publishing the reboot Perry Rhodan NEO which is "a reimagined version for the 21st century". According to that blog post: "In a long-running series like Perry Rhodan, plot points tend to evolve organically as different writers introduce them over time and as different editors shape the direction of the series. Neo starts folding in some of the longer running plot points early on to make a more unified story."

@Shiny Thanks for all the research, but I'm very familiar with the Ace Books editions, have a complete collection.
Much appreciated.

@RicBret JNC was printing series that did enough sales in a short enough period of time to warrant it, I don't think Perry Rhodan's sale come anywhere close to what they would have needed. I believe that going forward all new series getting print versions would be Yen Press sublicenses, so they'd need to be convinced the series is worth printing.
In regards to the amazon price, I believe it's being offered cheaper direct because there's no middleman taking a cut of the product. Amazon simply sells the version without any of the premium bonus content.

Close but not quite. Yen Press license them directly from the JP publisher, JNC have confirmed it's not a sublicense. There's no royalties going back to JNC for each sale etc.

@GeorgeMTO Ah, well there is a one time financial transaction to buy JNC's TL at the minimum it sounded like (which they can then edit to whatever standards they want before they print it). In any case it sounded like JNC will not be printing any new series going forward regardless of popularity.

How could I keep track of which JNC series are getting print versions with Yen Press? Is there a list somewhere?
-
@strangeattractor so far there's only been one set of announcements, for 3 LNs and 1 manga: https://yenpress.com/2022/11/yen-press-and-j-novel-club-announce-print-publishing-partnership/
Yen Press' website is (supposedly) getting updated soon, so hopefully their website will be more clear. For now at least, JNC does have their own tag as well: https://j-novel.club/series?search=tag:"print by yen press"
