[Light novel] Captain Corinth
-
Pretty please.😁
-
@wolfpack could you please tell us what's its about, who the author is, who published it and some of the things that you love about it?
Just a title is not a very convincing suggestion and I would like to hear why you like this series so much

Title: 航宙軍士官、冒険者になる | Kōchū-gun shikan, bōken-sha ni naru | The Galactic Naval Officer becomes an Adventurer
[The licensed manga adaptation has it as "Captain Corinth: The Galactic Navy Officer Becomes an Adventurer," but the Japanese title doesn't have anything resembling "Captain Corinth" as part of it.]

The spaceship which Imperial Galactic Navy Officer Alan Corinth helms is shot down by a surprise attack during hyper-space navigation. Completely due to freak coincidence, Alan is the only one in the ship to survive. The severely damaged spaceship loses its navigation capabilities and plummets onto a nearby planet.
Using an escape pod, Alan heads toward the planet alone. Thus begins Alan's quest for survival on the underdeveloped planet utilizing the symbiotic nanomachines [Nanom] within his body. Surprisingly, the planet is home to a thriving human civilization whose genetic code closely resemble Alan's own. Even while remaining at a loss due to being thrown into a world of swords and magic, he tries to live as best he can together with his newfound comrades.
What will Alan achieve in this strange world? The sci-fi fantasy story in a medieval setting now begins!

So… sci-fi isekai? Sold.

Wasn't this light novel series canceled? There hasn't been any new releases for a couple of years.

@Robert-Rodriguez
Four volumes have been released in Japan.
That's four volumes no one has read in a legal English translation.The determination as to whether to take on a given project is made by the various publishers.
What we can do is indicate we think we'd like to read a given story, however much of it there is.
And hope that whoever does license it carries through for all the volumes that have been released in Japan; J-Novel has a good track record in that regard, unlike some of the others. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes Some inside baseball: we wanted both the manga and LN for this series, but since someone else got the manga, us just publishing a cancelled LN series (and sci-fi's generally low sales) made us reconsider...
If the manga does super well, maybe? but unlikely at this point. We'd rather focus on series that will likely be completed or are new.

@admin
Fair enough.
But that underlines my argument, in some ways; the decision is made by the folks handling licensing, not the folks discussing whether or not to even suggest a title for consideration.Baring information such as you just provided, if one thinks it would be nice to read a licensed translation of a work one should suggest it.
While we now know you won't be licensing it (unless the Japanese publisher ties it to something else you really want to license), we also now know that you had been considering it at one time.
So suggesting it wasn't craziness. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes yeah I liked it and thought it looked nice. Found out the manga was based on an ln and took a look at that, etc. Wasn't because of a user suggestion though I found it myself.

I remember checking out the webnovel, it started out promising and then turned into half the chapters being about cooking pasta and karaage chicken.
If you ask my opinion, free webnovel Out of Space is better.
Edit: yup, just as I remember it:

Looking at the LN indexes, there's a single chapter in volume 2 about pork cutlets followed by one about magic tools, then one later about pasta, pizza and risotto. There's 26 chapters in the first volume alone so they're probably not that long individually.

The only thing I hate about OPB is their print runs seem small since the manga goes out of stock at major retailers for a few weeks following release until more stock shows up.
Not sure how much farther the LN actually goes than the WN (not far from what I've heard), but sounds like it just stalls out around the time it should be getting ready to move onto the next major arc, so I'm guessing the author either got bored, or ran out of ideas about how to keep the whole thing going without having to reveal everything.
While I think this would be a semi nice read (since I've read the WN), it's probably only worth it if the series starts up again in Japan, or JNC can get it on the cheap as part of bundle.
