The Bastard Sword is a sword of half-length. It's heavier and more unwieldy than a shortsword, but shorter and harder to use than a longsword. You can do anything with it, but at the same time you can't do anything with it. I, the old guildsman Mongrel, who loves such a half-hearted Bastard Sword, have a dream. It's about living in peace. Don't get me wrong, I was reincarnated from another world, so I could use skills to defeat powerful monsters, and I could even change this alternate world with modern knowledge. But I don't. Work in the guild at random, cooking and fishing...... Sometimes if you can help people, that's enough. This is a half-hearted adventure story about a random man who doesn't have much adventure.
Notes: I mostly posted this because Bastard Swordsman here won second place in the KimiRano Best Light Novel award for 2023 (Tankobon division). I figured it must be good to get second place, so I did a little research about it.
And as you can see, it's basically a slice of life title about an older guy from another world who, rather than being a world-changing isekai hero, decides that he just wants a slow everyday life with his Bastard Sword. Other similar titles have done well for JNC, so I mean why not
