Best overall manga reader app, for Android tablet?

For light novels, whenever I'm not at my desktop, I've been using a Kobo reader. It works fine, mostly, freezes sometimes but usually works again if temporarily connected to pc. (Though, if I'm not home when that happens, the reading has to wait...).
But manga never seems to work on it, can't stretch, too small, cut-off, freezing(the only ones which seem to work as intended strangely seem to be all purchased from Kobo. Not saying there's collusion, but...)
So for that reason, I bought Huawei MediaPad M5 10.8 (wifi only)(don't have it yet, still on the way, hopefully didn't make a blunder buying sight unseen...). For light novels I plan to use Moon+ Reader(or has anyone a better suggestion, I'm listening?). Also, because the old reader is e-ink black-and-white, I can't see inserted images in color so might possibly switch to MP entirely(any reasons why not to?) However...
...the part I'm less certain about, which app to read manga with, having done most of my digital manga reading on the desktop previously? I hear you CAN do that with M+R too, just that it's not too suitable for it. So, need your suggestions for a manga app? (Preferably one with not too invasive permission demands, really. AND, one which can handle local library, so no strictly store-tied examples, please...).

For Android? Tachiyomi. It's usually used to read from aggregators, but supports local sources as well, and has a great reader. Open source, all that great stuff too

Edit; It's designed primarily for aggregators and that's not what I'm looking for. But I'll note it up just in case I can't find any passable vanilla readers out there.Edit2; To expand, I've now gone through a boatload of suggestions on the web, and I have to ask, why is it so hard to find a comic/manga ebook reader equivalent out there with features you would expect to find in a dedicated non-stream comic viewer on windows?
If it isn't one that advertises huge library from aggregators(the only one I use or would recommend of those is mangadex which is basically batoto improved version in anything but name...) then half the time it's tied to a store and likely to have some of the same issues as the kobo reader. And if it isn't those then you find its needed permissions makes it too iffy to even consider. The only one I might give passing marks at this point is comicat by the looks of things.
@chocolatkey, your suggestion begins to make more and more sense despite the issue I mentioned earlier and despite it not being on googleplay. It is open source as you said and does seem to have a reliable developer team and plenty of recommending reviews.

Are you looking for online or offline after downloading.
If you have manga downloaded then try challenger viewer. And for light novel there are many app like ReadEraIf anyone know better app then tell me. As i never tried to look for another better app.

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems capable alright ...except it needs 'identity' and 'contacts' on your phone/tablet
which likely means using the app results you're going to be on the receiving end of targeted advertisement later in one form of other. And that's the more benign side of it. Nope.
It might be same case as with M+H that it needs those should you use google drive. I'm going to down it to my old phone and check if I can turn those of in settings/app. If I can it might be a reasonable viewer. Edit; It can be turned off, just gives a warning it might not work properly without access to accounts. But so far no errors, I'll try on the tablet later once I have it.For comparison, here's the permissions for comicat and takeuchi;

(Granted, google play page for Moon+Reader (for visual novels) also shows those two, but the actual app only lists 'Get_Accounts' which is off by default unless you want the app to work with google drive, and "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" which it needs...)
Edit3; For manga viewer, I opted for both comicat and challenger comic viewer, time will tell which will prevail. Tried tachiyomi too, but couldn't solve how to add local manga, and can't seem to get it working with the sd card...
For novel reading, the obvious choice was Moon+Reader.
