Seiji Hasumi, 32, teaches English at a private high school in a suburb of Tokyo.
A graduate of Harvard University, he worked for a time at a major U.S. investment bank.
But despite the stellar résumé, he has two diametrically opposed sides to his character.
On the one hand, he plays the role of dedicated teacher and is popular with his students for his learner-friendly teaching methods; on the other, he has secretly bugged the school building in order to gather information on the students and has been fixing things so that his favorite students—with emphasis on the pretty girls—will be in his 11th-grade homeroom.
However, this teacher hides even more darker secrets.

      The series has manga adaptation
was voted Number One in the 2011 Konomys rankings
      nominated for the Naoki Prize.

      Same author as Shinsekai Yori

      Publisher: Bungeishunju Ltd.

@bloodygaikotsu Well, you’ve convinced me of two things:

                    1. That the actual book being suggested in this thread is one I never, ever want to touch for my entire life
                    2. That someone needs to license the manga you showed here

1-Well, we just had a discussion about how u don't like these books~

2-Actually, I wanna start suggest manga and this is on my list lol (it's one of those web manga with 1 page per chapter)

It featured a lot of books I read or wanna read tbh (Both old and modern)
I even used it in another comedy novel here

                        Works now, thanks!

There's also a relatively decent movie of this thing (at least going by the rating) from Takashi Miike. I should really watch it one of these days.

                          I haven't mentioned it?
Well, I probably skipped mentioning it cuz it didn't have many good reviews as the book.

it's not light novel, but general literature book.

Most likely because no one is translating it, Shinsekai yori as a page while not being a LN.

I think Netflix has the movie adaptation for the people who are interested.

This is right up my alley but seems more like something Vertical would release than JNC

                                      Let's be honest.
Most of my suggestions would fit within Vertical or Vintage or VIZ catalog more—being serious or mystery or psychological or whatever.
While JNC audience is more about fantasy and non-serious titles.
Even when it's not so serious, it's non-fantasy romcom.

However if it's working somewhere out there, then JNC may swing it as well (with good titles and marketing...I hope)
Well, JNC is the only non-academic publisher I recall that dealt with this publisher, anyway.

@bloodygaikotsu Yes, totally fair. I would like to see JNC branch into these areas so always appreciate your suggestions! I suspect as people get more and more saturated with light novels there will come a day in which the demand for more general Japanese lit will also increase. I spent about five years reading only Japanese fiction (that’s actually what got me into Light Novels strangely enough), so I am always hopeful of increased demand!

@bloodygaikotsu They did licence thing Last and First idole, Yume Nikki or Echo, if it's oneshot or short serie there's a chance.

I'm not just talking about licensing.
These titles and teen drama like Kokoro Connect or horror like Ao Oni. They ultimately don't do so well with the already accumulated JNC audience.
I'm also talking about both trying to choose what may attract this audience which care for different things—and trying to reach out for that market.

Like I know many people who weren't aware of JNC existence—simply cuz they lack interest in the fantasy/isekai/light read brand that built or just lack in the digital in general. (I personally ignored JNC completely till I found by chance that they got Outbreak Company)

JNC started without much marketing and ended up building a very specific audience.
