Pages Read progress error/bug for manga?
-
Decided to read through what was up for "The Invincible Summoner Who Crawled Up from Level 1 (Manga)" and after finishing, I noticed the progress was bugged:
I've completely read through each chapter, but it seems that for some reason each chapter is marked as having a number of pages of 42, despite that only being the case for Chapter 1. I noticed when I checked on the website version of the site, Chapter 2's progress is also "37 of 42 pages read", so it doesn't seem to be a bug with the app.
Given this, I thought there might be some bug with the site's back end calculating the maximum number of pages of each chapter based on Chapter 1, or maybe whichever chapter had the largest number of pages, so I thought to check another manga at random, "A Late-Start Tamer's Laid-Back Life", and at a quick glance, it looked like Chapter 1 & 2 both had the correct number of pages marked... Then I checked all the other chapters in the volume.
Turns out, all but the first chapter is being marked as having 25 pages total, even tho only Chapter 2 has 25 pages, and a couple of those other chapters have more than 25 pages, and if I stop on page 25, it'll say I've completed that chapter, even if there are more pages than that.
So yeah, dunno if the number of pages a chapter has needs to be manually input or something, but I'd find this rather annoying if I want to see how far I've read on a particular manga, and I find that for some reason I've only partially read a bunch of chapters…

@TUSF This has been like this for quite a while. It annoys me, but never enough to post here. So thanks for reporting!
I too see this all the time on various manga.
-
Well, the level of detail hasn't ever been reported before, but the issue with the wrong number of pages on a manga volume is a known issue which in turn breaks the percent completed bar.
All these little manga related issues seems to stem from how the server backend handles manga and the issues are basically going to stay until they're able to revamp how the whole manga server works.

Thanks for raising awareness of this issue. I also find it annoying. Hopefully your investigation will help JNC fix the bug.

I have seen this bug on the app for as long as I can remember.
What's worse is that sometimes you will read through something and it will show ZERO pages read, which is bothersome since I use those progress bars to keep track of what series I have read and which ones I need to catch up on.
Hopefully they will fix it! -
@Jonathan-Kayne after the recent maintenance all of my manga process has reset and is no longer tracking so it has gotten worse. :(

Afaik tracking data is still being brought over from the old site's database and it seems like until that's done the site isn't recording new data.

@jpwong only for manga, it's working fine for novels.
They explicitly said on Discord that the manga tracking is not working currently due to the back end changes and that fixing that was planned for a future update. I got the impression that it's a lower priority to fix than the login and purchase and other UI issues so it might be a while before it gets fixed.
-
@pcj I don't have any tracking on novels on the web site. :/
-
Upsettingly enough... It's not tracking my reading at all anymore. If I don't know what I've read then I'm not reading the series. This means they are losing our on my purchases and rentals because I don't know if I've read it or not.
-
Ditto for me on this. All novels and Managa don't seem to reflect my history and I'm having trouble tracking where to pick up across the numerous titles I read.

Whats even more annoying is that as we can see in this discussion that this has been an issue for almost a year now. I feel they had plenty of time to fix this bug and as far as bugs go this one is pretty blatant.
They could even get away with adding a "mark as read" option and I am pretty sure most of us would be content with that. -

In the Android app you can mark novel parts as read/unread by holding down on the part listing, but only if you access it via the series listing rather than the recent parts listing. For manga it currently just says the feature is not supported though.
