I know this is an old topic - but I think technology as finally caught up to what was on my 'wishlist' for a device:

      high quality/clear display: e-ink 300 dpi - minimal ghosting/high refresh etc.
long battery life - weeks not hours
O/S that supports both J-Novel app and website
      fits in my jacket pocket/hand
      inexpensive
making my 'Christmas list" :BOOX Go 6 - not the fastest cpu but ticks all the boxes - $150 US- includes case - anyone have one? thoughts? alternates (I also like the BOOX Palma2 but a bit more than I want to spend and prefer an aspect ratio closer to 4:3)

      I read banned books

You probably already know this, but:

If you don't mind installing Calibre (free software) you can copy JNC, Hanashi, Baen, etc. DRM-free books from a PC to an Amazon Kindle with a couple of clicks.

It won't work with DRM-books from stores other than Amazon unless you can strip the DRM.

thanks - I do use calibre, but a kindle is useless for prepubs, and a device like a BOOX actually has a browser (If you know of something else/similar/better- I am open to suggestions)

Ah, I use my iPad for prepubs then my Kindle for the published books.

            I haven't been looking for a non-Amazon reader so I'm no help there :)

I'm not sure which devices would let you install eInkBro, which is an open source browser for e-ink devices that run on Android. It might be a criterion to look for - will the device allow you to install software?

The eInkBro software is available from GitHub and F-Droid.

I've seen some good reviews for the Meebook. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006212798527.html

I don't have the Go 6 but I have the original Palma and the Poke 3 and I definitely recommend! Both use android out the box.

I use mine to read epubs and n9vels on book☆walker and it's a great experience.

As mentioned - einkbro is the go-to web browser for eink devices although i haven't used it for prepubs (lmk if you want me to test it - it should work fine though, I just normally don't have wifi on for it)

You can run it out of the box, download your fave apps, or even use a custom launcher for it

idk what to put here but please j-novel staff update the BL tag to yaoi or boy's love so I can actually use the search feature

I finally 'made the leap'; I purchased a Meebook m7. I had some gift cards for the bezo's site so purchased there (used 'like new" for $159)

ticked a number of boxes for me:

                  • runs Android o/s and supports the JNovel app
                  • eInk - so easy on the eyes and long battery life
                  • has a browser
                  • mechanical page buttons
                  • size of a paperback (roughly octavo)
                  • usb type-c charging/data (plus wifi/bluetooth)
                  • rated decently by sources I trust

just got it and am playing with it now - will post more once I've used it on the train a few times

                  I read banned books
