Manga pages won’t load

Having problems loading manga pages on new iPad Pro on safari, firefox, brave, and Firefox focus. Same problem on my desktop. The first few pages load then gets stuck “Loading” or “Fetching info…”. Can sometimes load a few more then gets stuck again. When I try refreshing again it goes back to last page visible. Unable to view any manga at site now. Is it a setting I need? This needs to be fixed.

Hello,
based on what other users have reported. This is likely due to a plug-in that is installed in your browser.
https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/8675/some-chapters-not-loading?page=1
Plug-ins like noscript and duckduckgo's privacy plug-in.
If you try a different browser with no plug-ins, does the manga load?
-
The DuckDuckGo extension lets you disable it per site. On the manga reader page, click the DDG icon in the toolbar and uncheck the switch next to "Privacy protections are ON for this site"

I don’t use any plugins on any of my browsers. The failure is consistent across all the browsers I tried on my iPad Pro as well as an iPad Air I have access to. Those are Firefox , Firefox focus, brave, and safari. The mangas displayed properly in the app, but I don’t like the app because it is not as easy to navigate as the web page version. The simple scrolling interface is a pain, and I don’t understand why you can’t implement the web interface in the app. Is it because the team that created the web interface are no longer available?
I use j-novel almost daily. I am retired and have always been addicted to reading. I suppose I could use the app for manga and the web for light novels, which are my favorite. But since this is a new problem as far as I can tell, I’d rather see it fixed.

Ps. The problem is the same on my desktop Mac OS system.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I tried a lot of things now, switching browsers, switching OS and toggling all extensions off, private mode. Nothing seems to work, I simply can't read any manga anymore.
-
I believe whatever is happening is only happening to recent manga chapters. I think this because I was trying to read "Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf" on catchup, and I noticed all the volumes were readable except for the very last one.
The error that happens is consistent; the page will show "Fetching Info" but then never load.
I went back through the calendar to try and pinpoint when this started consistently happening, but I can only test with Chapter 1 previews. However, my best guess is something happened around August or September 2024 to make recent chapters unreadable.
I've tested in both Firefox and Chrome on macOS with plugins disabled, and the results are the same. Old chapters load fine, new ones don't. Incidentally, plugins didn't used to matter at all when browsing manga -- and still don't, for old chapters.
I am guessing that something changed late last year in the way you serve manga, and it just completely broke Web browsing.
-
Weird.
Because I'm not having any problems reading the latest manga chapters via my web browser.Windows 10
ChromeWorking just fine.

I have this same problem reading manga with Firefox on Mac OS. I can load old manga, no problem. Likewise, no problem with novels.
Looking at the Broswer Console, I see this error:
Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource athttps://fonts.gstatic.com/s/roboto/v47/KFO7CnqEu92Fr1ME7kSn66aGLdTylUAMa3yUBA.woff2. (Reason: CORS request did not succeed). Status code: (null).
So I have the feeling that this is a result of the security policy I've selected in Settings which blocks the following:
- Social media trackers
- Cross-site cookies in all windows
- Tracking content in all windows
- Cryptominers
- Known and suspected fingerprinters
But... that doesn't really explain why everything works fine for older manga and for novels.
Ideas welcome!
-
@swoods If it works fine with older manga and LNs...
Can you provide info as to which it isn't working with now, and the chapter where it changes to that?
If I'm parsing the URL given in your message properly it looks to tie in with gstatic, which is a Google managed site to help speed up image and such transmission (or at least that's the vague sense I get from a quick search...)Anyway, pinpointing when the problem starts with various titles would help JNC's support folks have an idea where to start looking for changes in code or whatever.
Because "older" is a tad vague. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes, thanks for your observations on this.
As an example, I can read the Rebuild World manga through volume 9, all chapters. Beginning with volume 10, I just get the spinning icon. The release data on the first chapter of volume 10 was 9/23/24. I mean, I can't remember if this when I first had problems or not.
For My Quiet Blacksmith Life in Another World, I can read up through volume 3, all chapters. As of volume 4, chapter 1 and later, no luck. The release date of the first chapter on volume 4 is 12/11/24.
For The 100th Time’s the Charm, all of volume 2 is working, but not volume 3. The release date for that first chapter of volume 3 is 12/9/24.
I hear what you're saying about gstatic... but I don't think I have this blocked directly. Unless it's part and parcel of my general Firefox settings.
I spend a lot of time on my Linux laptop, so I'll try that next.
-
I tried again on my Linux machine, also Firefox, but I have the same problem reading newer manga.
I added j-novel club to my exceptions list in Firefox so that its "Strict Tracking protection" is turned off. But no luck with this. I also tried turning off U Block Origin, but also no happiness there.
-
Having just checked, I'm loading volume 10 and 11 of the Rebuild World manga just fine, no issues.
I'm using Chrome on a Win10 system.Possible for you to check with a different browser?
...It'd suck if it were a Firefox issue, but that'd also help them narrow down the issue, or so I would hope. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes Thanks for your reponses! It's a lonely feeling when you post on a forum and no one replies. I appreciate it.
I will try again on the Mac with Safari. I do have an, ahem, older Macintosh, so I'm not sure what to expect there. The nice thing with Firefox is that you're up to date, even on very old hardware.
-
@swoods I would also suggest trying with your phone using cellular data instead of wifi (assuming that's an option for you), or through the VPN of your choice. That's what I have to do to read pre-pubs from my parents' house; ISPs can block the weirdest things, and your home's internet connection is about the only common factor once you've tried from multiple computers...

That's one of the reasons I've been chiming in, truth to tell.
To let you know someone had read and was concerned. The tech advice has been a bit of flailing around going "Um, if I were Tech Support what would I ask for?" followed by "OK, having gotten info I should at least check how the same works with my setup."
And if you prime the pump enough others tend to join in.

Thanks @kuali. I will try both approaches if I fail out with my various browsers. I also have a machine where I can set up a proxy; that's also on my list to try.
Mindboggling that you get problems with prepub volumes. I'll go back and check if that matches how it works for me.

@Geezer-Weasalopes, truly appreciated!!!
I haven't had any issues with the platform up until this point. And, to be fair, I don't know if this is due to a change in the platform or if I changed something on my end.
If I did make some configuration change I am completey puzzled why it only affects newer manga chapters.
I do have a test computer and I may do a complete build with a new Linux OS and browser. That way there would be no legacy data from profiles, config settings and such... kind of a last resort.
