      Volume 17:

“That’s because you may as well be blind,” Ai Fa retorted without the slightest mercy.

Yep, Asuta (Manwhore Asuta) is totes blind when it comes to impressionable young ladies being impressed.

      Oh!
Mere pages later, they confess their feelings for each other to each other!
      Woohoo!
      ...and to no avail.
      Wah!
...hopefully one day she sees options other than having kids or staying a hunter; it's not a totes binary choice, ya dig?
To put it crudely, ya can take a break to pop one out and after weaning take up hunting again.

        Volume 19:

It would be several months before I would see Eleo Chel again, when these citizens of Mahyudra would be invited to the settlement at the forest’s edge in an unexpected turn of events. However, that was another story entirely.

Gotta say, my first reaction upon Eleo being described was, "So, got the makings of a Hunter, doesn't he now?"
That'd be one way of dealing with the "What do you do with the slavery issue?" issue, absorption into the one local group with no hang-ups concerning their country of origin...provided they all were comfortable with it?
Repatriation isn't on the table, one has to presume. Nevermind they likely wouldn't have a place to return to.

I have to feel for Marth's situation.
He isn't in a position to implement changes, and his upbringing focused on not developing any sympathies for the slaves; Asuta has the sense he has to keep telling himself that.

Eleo being Chiffon's brother is an interesting twist; the author continues making the appearance of pivotal characters seem reasonable in the narrative.

Anyway, we'll see what happens when Asuta talks with Polarth.

Not quite a locked room murder mystery...no, wait, really it was.
A series of unpleasant events, culminating in the death by misadventure (hah!) of the unpleasantist of all involved.
For the survivors...they likely will be happier all around at the outcome.
It helps that they have a relative who does give a damn about them.

          Volume 20 now.

Um, just how large is the giba range and population, anyway?
          Their reproduction rate?
          Maturation rate?
...can you really treat them as an inexhaustible resource?

            Still in Volume 20.
            Manwhore Asuta.
Arishuna really wants his cooking, not just any giba curry.
Add on the number of slightly over tens who keep glomping onto him at the circus...his presence being so reassuring.

If ever selecting a Goodwill Embassy for the people of the forest's edge...

Ludo Ruu. Cheery, outgoing, least blatantly intimidating, and really can read the room most excellently despite all appearances to the contrary.
Dan Rutim. Sure he's big & strong. He's also cheery and outgoing, everyone's friend (unless they choose to be an utter ass.)

Jiza Ruu is seeing a side of Ludo during the festival that he may not have properly grasped before. Hopefully he'll realize that when seeking to defuse a situation, weaponize Ludo.

                Within volume 21...

Based upon what is said of the White Sage, it seems there have been others who have crossed over from our world to theirs.
"Starless Ones" have no ties to the new world, are not tied to its fates, so those who view probabilities/futures cannot see them.

It also seems such can cause drastic changes in the fortunes of those they interact with, changes that seem disproportionate when viewed from a distance...or up close.

One wonders concerning the circumstances of their transfer.
If there are resident gods, they really seem quite hands off,
If there truly is a weave of fate, bringing in unrestrained threads would seem quite chancy.
But the changes seem more positive than otherwise in the two known instances.

I really suspect the why and wherefore will never be revealed; it isn't relevant to the story beyond having happened.

The steam room/bath...filled with eight hunters of the forest's edge?
Enough to give a fujoshi a nose bleed!

“But I get the feeling that you are the only one to have made a connection with those two girls,” she said, turning away in a huff and glaring at me out of the corner of her eye. “Since you work as a chef at the forest’s edge, I can understand why you’re always making friends with women there... But even when you’re in town, you still only ever seem to associate yourself with young women.”

                Manwhore Asuta!
Well, maybe he just desires to avoid Middle-Aged Man Stench, the same as Haruka from Loner Life.

                  Volume 24:
First, ick what happened to Mikel and Myme.
Damn good thing Asuta got concerned and asked Ai Fa to investigate.

                  Moving onward...
                  Dei Ravitz is an asshole.
Jiminy Christmas, what a jerk! A maroon! A poltroon!
                  A complete and utter fool.
And it seems the other men of the Ravitz are similar, and they've ground down their womenfolk.
Not as bad as the Suun, no dead fish eyes, but man oh man I'm looking forward to some changes there.
Note: It's only the end of the first day of interaction.

So you made this topic 16 days ago and have read 20 volumes in that time period? Not bad :D

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

                      I'm enjoying it.
Not commenting as much as I'd thought I might as I don't comment on the actual cooking, but all those who were pushing it as having solid worldbuilding were onto something.

OK, a bit further into 24.
...Dei Ravitz is still an ass, but there may be hope.
Man, his bunch sure need to lighten up a bit, but it seems there may be some reason for suppressing their emotions...if they've been as close to the edge as I'm starting to suspect.

                        A Wild Shumiral Approaches!
                        Yay!

Um, I'm suspecting the reason Asuta desires he hold off on trying the Giba Curry in town is because he should have Vina Ruu's Giba Curry before anyone else's.
                        Wise man, that Asuta.

                        Hunting dogs.
The unexpected wholehearted endorsement from Bartha didn't hurt none.

                        Back to reading.

                          Finishing up Volume 25!

“Lady Lefreya, please don’t act recklessly.”

“Why not? I’m just like a little bird that’s been kept beyond the end of its usefulness, so if I do not chirp as loud as I can, no one will ever look at me.”

                          Chirp loud, Lefreya, chirp loud.

                            Rereading now.
                            Volume 17.

Yun Sudra has the problem of not being into cooking cute critters.
                            They're soo cuute!

Which reminded me of a tale my father told from his youth.
Dad grew up in the Great Depression, in the bad part of town; the bad part of a paper mill town, so, um, yeah.
Everyone raised chickens and such; it wasn't optional, it was necessary for survival.
One of his uncles just couldn't kill and eat the chickens he'd been involved with raising; they were family as it were.
So they'd sell the chickens they'd raised and the ones they ate were purchased from someone else... Yeah, right.
That's what everyone told dad's uncle.
                            And everyone lied.
The economics didn't allow such idiocy.
While he was at work his wife and kids slaughtered and processed the chickens they'd raised, and that's what they ate.

                              Volume 19.
                              Whole roast giba.

Many years ago there was an SCA event I attended, an annual event, where they cooked a whole boar over an open pit fire as something for all attendees to partake of.
I was never involved with that aspect of things other than eating, so all I know is that it cooked for a real long time on a rotating spit, that getting it evenly done throughout did require clueful folks monitoring the entire process.

The last time I attended that event would have been in 1995?
                              Something like that.
My memory of what it tasted like is...non-existent.
                              The event no longer occurs.
It had a good long run, some 10+ years.

                                Volume 22:

                                Gazraan Rutim:

“Right. Of course, entering our hunting grounds without permission is forbidden by the laws of Genos too. That much is also only natural, as someone setting foot there carelessly could easily lose their life to the traps we have set. Although, thinking back, since Ai Fa first encountered you while you were caught in one of her traps, Asuta, I suppose you were breaking the laws of Genos right from the start.”

                                Heh.
                                Asuta, lawbreaker extraordinaire!
