The contest guidelines state: "Works which have previously been published for profit are ineligible for submission. This includes works that were self-published on sites which monetize the sale or streaming of the work."

I have a novel that I previously self-published years ago, but I have since unpublished it from the two websites where it was available for purchase. The novel is no longer being sold or monetized.

I have largely rewritten the novel and would like to submit the revised version to the J-Novel Club Contest. The version I intend to submit is substantially different from the previously self-published version, including the character names, the plot, and the chapters, etc. In other words, I would not be submitting the previously published version, but a completely redrafted version of the story.

        1. Would the revised version be eligible for submission under the contest guidelines, given that it is no longer the same version that was previously self-published and the original version is no longer available for purchase?
        1. Or does the prior monetized self-publication make any completely revised version ineligible?

If anyone can clarify this, I'd greatly appreciate it!
