Constant Disconnects in Forums
-
Good Day,
Curiously for a website I am constantly getting "Looks like your connection to J-Novel Club Forums was lost, please wait while we try to reconnect." messages while browsing the forums. Why does a forums site even need to maintain a constant connection? When it can simply load the links requested when they are clicked.
I suspect there might of been assumptions in the design of the forums close geographic position IE only people from the USA. So it does not understand when pings and requests are routed internationally and so have longer latency.
-
Actually, the forum software maintains a connection to let you know of someone posts something to a topic WHILE you are doing other things, so... Giving that up gives up that feature.
-
It's not a geography thing. I'm in the US and a few dozen milliseconds from their data center, and I've been getting that constantly the last few days as well.
I'm also getting a lot of red boxes that say "Oops. Looks like something went wrong." when trying to open forum topics. If I just leave it open, the red box will eventually disappear after 10 or 15 seconds, and the topic will actually load.
As for features provided, new comments in a topic and edits to existing comments automatically get added while you're reading if you leave the topic open. And the notification bell lights up immediately if someone likes one of your comments or replies to you.
-
And just now I got a 502 error from Cloudflare trying to load a forum topic.
-
I agree that these notifications have been getting more frequent lately.
-
Add me to the list. I get these everytime I log in to the forum at least once and lately multiple times a session.
-
Yes, I just got the "Looks like..." message 4 times in a row within 3 minutes

I got this earlier as well. Seems like an issue with the server the forums are running on or something.

I have been getting the connection error issue constantly for the last week or two as well as frequently getting the 502 error from cloudflare several times and forum pages have been loading very slowly and for some reason partway through reading a forum it automatically tries to refresh and brings me back to where I started. It has been extremely annoying trying to do anything on the forums lately.
-
It's been reported on the discord channel that a fix for some of the connection issues people have been seeing has been deployed as of about 2 hours ago, so please report if you're still seeing these issues.

Everything is working much better now.

You might've spoken too soon, lol. I'm getting the following error on most pages on the forums:
Internal Error.
Oops! Looks like something went wrong!
/category/1/announcements (with this being the url for the page I'm trying to load)
invalid signature
-
I'm getting the invalid signature error as well. It seems to trigger when using links from the outside of the forum (like the reader page, or manually pasting an URL) or when triggering a manual refresh of the page.
Back and forward button seem to somewhat inconsistently trigger it as well. I tried copy pasting a forum URL within the same tab (so the the URL was not malformed), which gave me the error, then going back via the browser button, which also gave an error, but the third time worked, then going forward worked (to the page that had displayed an error when going backwards), and finally going forward to the pasted URL page which still displayed an error. All this was done on mobile Firefox 158.0.2 if it matters.

Hello,
Signing out and back in from the main website should fix this.
We made some updates on the forums that caused everyone to be signed out.
So signing out on the main website and signing back in should reset everything.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
That seems to have fixed it for now.

Unfortunately, no. I've logged out of both the main site and forums, as you suggest, and then tried signing back into both.
When I log into the forums, I get the following error:
Internal Error. Oops! Looks like something went wrong! /login req#logout requires a callback functionReloading the forums, ferex through the Unread button, shows that the login did work, but the button at far right of the forum header still shows "Login". And when I click on "Login", it shows my proper profile.
And when I try to click on the Discuss on the Forums button from a story page in the reader, I get the following error:
Internal Error. Oops! Looks like something went wrong! /topic/10440 req#logout requires a callback functionSo I'm not sure what's going on, but it's still glitched.

@Travis-Butler
Thank you, instead of logging into the forums at all.Can you go to the main site only, log out (if you are logged in) then log in on the main site and click the "FORUMS" button from the main site to come to the forums?
if that is successful, then going to the forums from the reader should also work.
I can't say for sure it will work, but the only difference with what you wrote and what others who did it are, they did not log in to the forums, just the main site.
