Which novel do you think is overall more worth reading (from the story, the setting, the game elements, the characters), letting aside, if it's licensed or not? 'A Wild Last Boss Appeared' or 'The New Gate'?
-
I haven't read either - so I won't vote
I am curious to read comments as to why voters advocate one over the other
-
I've read only New Gate so I can't really compare them/say anything.
-
Last bost even COncluded last month with 9th vol. so I would wiser to Licence it instead of 14 Vol. series which is From Publisher who we can´t make relationship with..yet
-
I've read both I would recommande the new gate because there's more content, quality wise I think Last boss is a bit better but the LN isn't even translated pass the manga scan.
The new gate:
- Nearly caught up with the jap release
- translation quality is professionnal level
- regularly update
- kinda cliché but the characters are just different enough to be enjoyable
- MC isn’t stupid, op but not infuriating
Last boss:
- Good setting cliché at first but with good world building
- really interesting plot
- good MC not totaly op, with a good mytery on his origin
- interesting antagoniste
Edit: just finish The new gate vol 12 and it remind me that I forgot to include that TNG is full of asspulled, especially in latter volumes ^^

I enjoyed both, but if you could only pick one I'd say "A Wild Last Boss Appeared". I don't disagree with anything Raitoiro said, though.
"A Wild Last Boss" had a couple of twists that genuinely surprised me, but I could see the hints with hindsight -- I love that kind of thing. :)

May be it's allready the case, but if you like that type of writting you should read "So I'm a spider, so what ?"
-
Can't make the ultimate decision for one or the other cause only one of them have their "LN" version translated. Last Boss is a really cool fantasy series where we're learning about this other world based off the game in which MC's character existed and shit happened. The New Gate is more greatly focused on the romance and I feel the action/conflicts are a weak point. I think they just aren't very comparable series beyond "Game->Isekai".
In regards to what I would want licensed, probably The New Gate cause I like romance.

I haven't -- thanks for the suggestion! I'll check it out. :D

I'll second the recommendation for So I'm A Spider. I was still piecing together the two parallel stories at the end of volume 5, and plan to re-read them later this year now that I know what's going on. It has a bit of the Memento feel where only at the end do you fully understand what was happening along the way.

I think ‘A Wild Last Boss Appeared’ is much more worth reading than ‘The New Gate’, although this novel also has it’s charms. Reason for my choice, next to the detailed world descriptions and included gaming elements is the unique MC. I absolutely love such special stories, where the originally male MC gets transferred into a female body, it’s really the best!!! Aside from this I can’t stand male MC’s, they always have a harem of beautiful girls around them, choose rarely only one and at a certain point in the novel they have nothing other to do than screwing around with said girls... And after all this, they still can’t decide which woman they truly like... Female MC’s are so much better!!!
-
@Claire-Lilly My thoughts exactly! Because of this I’m mostly reading novels with female main characters.
-
@claire-lilly You can find quite a lot of stories with a male MC without harem: Grimgar, The faraway paladin, Cooking with wild game, ...
The new gate also don't really have a harem since only 2 girl love him, and he does make a choice and marry someone in the latter volume.

The New Gate has great world building and character interaction, but there's no tension as the MC is OP AF.
It uses the tiresome "OPMC holding back all their power because reasons". This means that there's no tension, and any such tension (usually by other characters) is a moot point because you know that the MC will arrive and effortlessly save the day.
Instead of using already established abilities or foreshadowed ones, the MC literally conveniently pulls out a new skill that he never had before and was never mentioned but is exactly what is needed for the situation.
The antagonists are usually just stereotypical WN villains (ie: one dimensional with no redeeming factors). There are a couple good ones that goes beyond that though.
The MC is literally hatedom/meme Kirito.
That said, as mentioned above, the world building and character interaction is great in this series.

@Claire-Lilly @Clarabelle I do like my female MCs, but not all ones with male MCs are terrible by any means. I find a big thing (though not the only thing) for quality is having a good gender-balanced cast, though.
