If you're a premium member, you get a credit to purchase one premium book each month. Premium books have small bonus content (like side stories, or extra color art, or author interviews) and are in high res(?) Epub format.
You can also purchase additional premium credits to buy more books.

To clarify, you can currently purchase premium credits as both a normal member and as a premium member. They cost $7 for normal members and $6 for premium members. Alternatively, you can buy the published books from most of the usual digital stores but these will not contain the bonus material from the premium edition.
Subscribing to the site will let you read pre-published volumes as they are translated - in other words, you will not be able to read volumes that have been published already.
-
So, wait, with a subscription you can't read everything? I was going to subscribe specifically for Arifureta past vol. 1 part 1. If I'd have to buy it anyways, I will probably just buy the eBook instead. I think they need to be more clear, because the sign-up page reads like this is a "Netflix-style" subscription with full access to their library for subscribers.

@Kevin-Meier But that's what it says: "Become a J-Novel Club Member and read the latest volumes as they are translated!" Doesn't say "read all the volumes."
The subscription is definitely good if you read a lot, since there are a lot of translated chapters available at any given time for every series. However, if you only want to read 1 series, subbing might not be the most economical choice.

@Kevin-Meier First time you subscribe to a premium membership you get a free credit and then another one on the 15th of every month.
So I think that now is a good chance for you to give the premium membership an opportunity since you will have the possibility to buy two e-books with bonus content. Especially since you don't have to wait much for the 2nd credit... and if you still don't think that it's worth it, you just cancel the membership.
You also have the possibility to read some of the new series that haven't been taken down yet, for example, "Bluesteel Blasphemer Volume 1" will be taken down on the 15th of this month, so if you are quick, you can still read it.
and you have until the 15th of the next month to read, "If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord: Volume 1", "Demon King Daimaou: Volume 1" and "Infinite Dendrogram: Volume 1".
Really think that it's a good deal. Also, the premium membership costs $10.95 a month. and the 1st volume of Arifureta costs $8.60 on Amazon. If you were going to buy the first 2 you would spend $17.20 on Amazon. Where, if you get the premium membership you get those 2 volumes and the chance to read others series for a lot less than that.
Edit: also, 1st volume of Arifureta has an extremely funny short story about chess that is bonus content

IMO it's worth it even if it's just to get access to the premium credits, those exclusive side-stories are worth it, and given that you get a free credit every month, that already has a 6$ value, and first month you get not 1 but 2 credits (when you sign up and on the 15th) so even if you subscribe now you could buy both epubs once it's out for a lot less than if you bought the non-premium version on amazon (which come without the extra side-stories) and from then on you can just read the series as it comes out, downgrade to a normal membership or whatever, but if you're following at least 3 series, a monthly credit would be in your best interest since you can get more credits for 6$ instead of 7$ (non-premium members).
