Question about The Magic in the Other World is Too Far Behind
-
I recall that in volume 2, Suimei had trouble fighting that demon subordinate because his magic just wasn't effective. Why was that?
Also, if his magic wasn't effective, how does he become so powerful in that world? I mean he beats demon lords, fights on equal ground with the dragonewt, and much more. I just don't understand and feel that I'm forgetting a crucial fact that's not author's bad writing... Plz help

Is explained that all magic in the Isekai world is augmented by the Goddesses blessing.
Demons are blessed by the evil God and the goddess blessing helps negate it.
Suimei's magic doesn't have the blessing so essentially his magic does much less damage.
In RPG terms, the Demons have 1,000 hp and negate 90% of Suimei's spells so a 1000 dmg spell does 100 dmg.
Of course, that 1000 dmg spell is the strongest the Isekai world has, but Suimei has much more powerful ones.
Once Suimei realizes this, he starts casting spells that dishes out 100,000 dmg. Even though 90% of it is negated, that's still 10,000 dmg on something with 1000 hp so they get one shotted.

@village-idiot But later, doesn't he say that magick should work? "At any rate, that was Suimei’s theory. Because the demons had divine protection from their Evil God, fundamentally, only magic from this world that opposed such a thing would really work against it. However, as long as the Evil God itself resided on the astral plane, it would end up in the same category as gods and devils from the astral plane. Consequently, the demons were a bloodline of evil existences, and magicka would be effective against them too."
After realizing this, he is able to easily kill demons, but I'm confused why it didn't work before. It doesn't seem like his magick is any different than before later on in the seires.

Demons have damage reduction against the simple elemental spells he tried at first, so he changed his spells.
I can think of 3 approaches:
- As mentioned, boosting the output so the small percentage not resisted adds up
- Change the damage type, for example "divine" instead of "fire"
- Change the cause / component / underlying powers or symbolism being called on to create an effect. For example instead of an "elemental" fireball maybe a fireball based on a ritual invoking Surtr from Norse mythology
I'm too lazy to re-read the series and pick out the exact details :)
