@jcochran from what I've seen and remember they didn't really skip that many major scenes. You can't really get everything into the animation no matter how much people will want it. That said this part - while the volumes maybe aren't as long/longer as p1v3 (or so I've heard) - does get a whole book longer in total, so one can only hope they either get more episodes, or that there are enough small scenes that pad the story and build this wonderful world that can get adjusted to fit without truly hurting the overall image. I'd imagine part 3 anime - should that air - would have to be multiple cours though

@cibastian Perhaps. One thing that really annoyed me with the anime to date was episode 9 when they really screwed up the timeline. Myne was commissioned to make an hair pin for Frieda's baptism that was coming up in a month. Then the anime does the "one month later" caption for delivery of the hair pin whereas the LN had the construction take less than a week. Totally screwed up the time line there since it left no time at all for all of the events that happen between the delivery and the baptism. So the next episode uses a lot of hand waving and vagueness to deal with those events. Just because some writer doesn't know the difference between a week and a month and make a totally arbitrary and unneeded change.

Morning and Mourning sound alike for good and sufficient reasons.

@cibastian I did a character count of the LN series a while back. It's a bit out of date since 4 volumes have come out since then, but the character counts were like so:

          Part 1 Vol 1: 186,253
          Part 1 Vol 2: 207,955
          Part 1 Vol 3: 269,769

          Part 2 Vol 1: 229,042
          Part 2 Vol 2: 239,992
          Part 2 Vol 3: 206,595
          Part 2 Vol 4: 207,589

          Part 3 Vol 1: 221,338
          Part 3 Vol 2: 215,595
          Part 3 Vol 3: 212,476
          Part 3 Vol 4: 218,981
          Part 3 Vol 5: 231,006

          Part 4 Vol 1: 244,675
          Part 4 Vol 2: 231,135
          Part 4 Vol 3: 236,234
          Part 4 Vol 4: 212,438
          Part 4 Vol 5: 219,434

This is character count, so it's a pure expression of length (no variance between how much text is on a page for instance). As you can see, although P1V3 is the longest in the series, the books pretty steadily hover around 220k-240k which is only a bit smaller than P1V3's 270k. Also, P1V3's length might not be reflected at all in the anime, since it's so long due to like 6 short stories being tacked onto the end whereas the anime might potentially not show any of them.

@hiroto I'll give a second sighting to that new Orphen anime. I saw it mentioned in an upcoming Winter 2020 anime list on YouTube. I guess that makes three anime I'll be watching in January.

I want to note that Ms Kazuki works pretty closely with all the derivative works of her novel (except translations). She spends lots of time with anime team, sometime even go to their recording sessions. So whatever happening in anime is likely to be sanctioned by the original author.

Anime has tighter constrains than novel does and you cannot put everything in novel into anime, so they need to weave together the essential events to tell the essence of the story, and I guess they felt jumping there one month works to cut out some less important events around that period. I thought it flowed pretty well.

It's true that the anime has tighter time constraints. But your argument doesn't work since those events were still put into the anime.
The guildmaster bragging about Frieda's ornaments to rich acquaintances so they in turn pressure Benno for them. The time doesn't exist.
The trombe sprouting and Lutz & Myne getting and processing the bark from it. The time doesn't exist.
Myne adn Lutz making 20 ornaments for Benno. The time doesn't exist.
                etc. etc. etc.

All of the above is mentioned/included in the anime in a rather vague and nebulous fashion as regards to time simply because the actual time for those activities doesn't exist because someone decided to allow for a month to pass by instead of a week.

Apology that I missed your point. You are completely right about "there is no time". Actually, it is worse than you said. Here is the the time line.

                  • Day 0 - The night Myne returned with the red thread from Freida, with Tuuli and mom's help, and Dad making extra needles, all the red flowers got done.

                  • Day 1 - The day after, Myne purchase white thread, and all the flowers were done that evening, in addition some green leaves.

                  • Day 2 - The next day, it was completed with wood part from Lutz. They took them to Benno to look at it, then to the Guild to deliver it, then guild master took them to Freida to deliver directly.

So, it is actually "two days later", not even "a week", and that will leave them with full month of all those events to occur.

Also, it is definitely not translation error. Japanese voice is clearly saying the same thing.

Darn, I was hoping it was a translation error. As for my using a week, I should have said "about a week" or "less than a week". I wasn't making the assumption that Myne and Lutz immediately delivered the ornament as soon as it was finished since the LN was a bit vague on that point, so I allowed for a few days of leeway in the timing.

According to the author's post, this OVA is only sold as bundle and only from TO Books online store and will not be sold separately. I would expect it will be sold separately eventually, but wonder if it will make to crunchyroll someday?

@hiroto Oh my. Is that "edible ink jet coloring" used for the majority of the cake? And Myne seems to be missing her trademark hair stick. But still, quite lovely work.

Speaking of Ferdnand, does the anime's framing "device" actually happen in the LN? (Obviously requires a Spoiler tag to answer.)

Hi guys , i found this forum now. Before i post anything i want to ask about spoiler tag.If we are talking about LN should we use spoiler tag or can we assume everyone here read the LN in J-Novel?

8 parts, 8 weeks to read a book, than binge read the same book within' 2 hours again.

                                        Myne: Did we deceived him?
                                        Ferdinand: Indeed we did.
                                        Myne: *surprised myneface

@hopebestman well this is a topic for discussing the anime, so if you want to discuss difference between how the Anime adapted the LN no spoiler tag is needed, for the most part the only time you would need a spoiler tag is when you discuss something that has not already been officially translated by J-Novel Club

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.
