Sol Press Discussion Thread

I absolutely love how their Project Roundup - Blog updates inform us of their releases from December.</s>
To me this just indicates there is absolutely no, or an embarrassing amount of progress on the next volume and they are just filling up space in the post so it's not just 2 lines.
Their 3/3/2021 update should have really looked like:
Light Novels:
Redefining the META at VRMMO Academy:
- Volume 4 is in lettering
Why Shouldn’t a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love?!:
- Waiting on assets
-All other Titles-
- No progress
-
I really feel sorry for Rakudai since it was picked up by this sad excuse of a publisher.

Redefining the META at VRMMO Academy:
- Volume 4 is finalizing

(The light novels section lists release dates of July 19th and June 28th. That "finalizing" is tricky stuff.)
Sigh.

Well DAMN! I sure hope that announcement is right. I've been waiting for this got a while now.It's a fun series, I just wish JNC had gotten it along with 80,000 Gold.
To anyone who feels like supporting them in the hope that they eventually hire more staff, Strongest Gamer 1-2 are good too.
-
@harmlessdave
I took wish JNC got the title, but they can't have them all. As long as I get to read the last novel I'll be good. That was really the only title I was reading from Sol Press. -
And the weeks continue to pass and yet I do not hear even a whimper (I would accept even this, but a whisper or more would be better) of volume 6 of a Rakudai.
I would have preferred they had kept the announcement for another year or 2 and allow the fan to to catch up, than be strung along by this pace which makes even fan translation sites look like sprinters.
Not all of us are lucky enough to have some understanding of the Japanese language to read the originals. (Admittedly, translating is exhausting for me and something I'd not do as leisurely)
Honestly, you can put monthly updates showing no updates for months on a series and call it an update. You cannot say available on Amazon etc and actually not stock anything on Amazon. No matter how much I like a series, I will not be paying double the cost for import and postage (though Rokujouma Kickstarter was an exception....and worth every penny).
Sol Press annoys me immensely due to the disappointment. Which it should not do since they only have a single license I actually want to read.
-
@custodes yeah it's total crap. I tried to buy the physicals but they ended up getting cancelles. For one of the most wanted series to end up in this state is sad...
The slow release date and non-existent physicals of 80k gold is another body blow...
-
Good news, eventually, someday, we hope: https://solpress.co/blog
Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement: Volume 3 is in translation/editing
... which means there is a slight chance we'll see it by December 2021, but sometime in 2022 is more likely.

Oh, come on. Don’t be so optimistic, 2024 at the earliest.

Honest truth, I would rather see their business fail and the licenses be rescued than continue to suffer the pain of watching, waiting and be subject to such an awful business model.
The products they sell may be a non essential but far from premium, the lack of publication makes you wonder if they are even in the "black" financially. Are they even making a return on the licenses as I'm sure many are playing a watch and wait. I know I waited till there were 5 Rakudai translated before buying and I know many are not thinking of purchasing till they catch up to the former fan translation -
@harmlessdave I also wish JNC had 80,000 gold
-
@hawkens - "so say we all" :)
I'd join in hoping they fail, except who knows how long their licenses would be tied up before being rescued? Though I guess even if it was 2 years JNC could still finish 80,000 Gold before Slow Press will.
-
@harmlessdave The concern is that companies may be hesitant to re-license things that are considered "failures" or the window of opportunity for the series may have passed since the initial licensing.
I'd say my hope would be for Sol to just keep chugging along at a snail's pace but they really have sucked beyond any and all expectation, so these days I'd be willing to take the chance 80k (the series I'm most interested in by them) never gets saved rather than live with the surety that it will go so slow it will likely never get finished.
-
@custodes I'll tell you this, I'm not buying because I already tried buying and they've had my money without delivering my books for well over a year now. That they can't even deliver long since paid physical copies of volume 1 of the 80,000 Gold manga and light novel by now is absolutely pathetic, and particularly infuriating given they have produced some physical volumes of Rakudai in the time between. As far as I'm concerned, Sol Press is blacklisted for me until they deliver what they owe.
-
Anyone else find that the Sol Press website is down?
Was trying to see their monthly non-progress report. -
@custodes
It's down for me as well.May they finally went down due to all of their mismanagement.

Nothing in their twitter account about the situation. Last tweet is from 26 July.
