@Zing He's only off by 2 days, still a vaild complaint.
38 days is excessive between the last part and the epub IMO -

Not when the date is 2–3 months away and half of the world is on proverbial fire.
-
@_08 How far away the dates are from now doesn't make the point any else relevant.
I'm also trying to find the connection between the 38 days between the last part/publication and other things happening in the world? -
Well that veered off topic rather quickly...
Gone ahead and made a separate post.
As for what OP has to say, of course you are allowed to complain about something.
I am not involved with final ebook publication, but on average there is a month gap in between volume releases from the final part to the final product.
They need time to put the last quality checks in, and translate and edit the premium Short Stories (which Seirei tends to have) and then it still has to go through a final check.
Both the translator and the editor of Seirei work on other series on J-Novel Club, not to mention work outside of J-Novel Club.

Am I the only one who can COUNT HERE or are you talking about a different part?
Ummmm... Lets see, what is twenty six minus twelve? I believe that equals to fourteen! Which means we are getting volume 10 part 1 two weeks after volume 9 part 10. Please, enlighten me, where did 38 days later came from?If OP is complaining about volume 9 release being about 32 days away, then too bad for him/her.
-
@Zing
This was in the topic for Volume 10. Volume 10 part 10 is released on May 28. The epub is released on July 5.
I think your on a totally different train of thought thinking of only pre-pubs and the last and first releases.... -
@Timmaaah last part (or any other part) can be delayed without much complications amazon release can not. 38(ish) days is extra time they will have in case things don't go as planned.
How far away the dates are from now doesn't make the point any else relevant.
You wouldn't need that much extra time if there was like one chapter left.
And two months ago everyone was just laughing at China for the most part.@Zing pretty sure he asked about 10th volume release date (July 5).
-
@Zing the OP is talking about the time gap between Volume 10 Part 10 which is tentatively scheduled for May 27 & the release of the final ebook which is tentatively scheduled for July 5

The answer to OP's question is: SUMMER VACATION. -
The answer is that yes, due to COVID-19 concerns, we are adding in more time between the end of the parts streaming and the release in case any of the parts need to be delayed. While we haven't had any full-blown problems with any of our translators or editors yet, some of you may have noticed 1-2 day delays more frequently for some series, and these are definitely quarantine-related.
Just speaking to some of our staff, it's clear they are very stressed out from the situation, and we believe it's better to add the extra time now so that everyone (a lot of people are involved in finalizing the book) can breathe easier rather than adding additional stress because a plausible delay happens and we didn't account for it.
-
Force Majuere delays? (I think COVID-19 definitely meets the criteria here)
Personally, I am just glad that you can keep working at all.
-
seems to me stretching the foretasted release date to allow for possible contingencies is a prudent decision
and posting that date so we know what is going on? good practice as well
-
Yeah, COVID-19 has definitely messed up a lot of plans (looking at a couple things with regards to a couple TTRPG companies making decisions to cancel/postpone things), so having a couple extra weeks for possible delays really helps. Plus it means that if one of the copy editors, graphic editors, or layout people gets sick, it's not going to delay the book nearly as much.

If you miss an Amazon release date, does it totally kill the profitability of that volume or what?
Cause pretty much every single volume of Re:Zero and Konosuba get put back a week or two by Yen, do they play by different Amazon rules than JNC cause more money?
-
@smashman42 Missing an Amazon release date can have repercussions on all future books, not just the one with the missed release date.
-
@smashman42 J-Novel Club operates under KDP rules, and b those rules if they miss 1 pre-order date they are not allowed to put up any pre-orders for a year.
So that means books can only be made available after being completed, needless to say not having pre-orders available would be a devastating blow.
-
@SomeOldGuy Yeah, but what about Yen - they do it all the time, so do they have different rules cause they bribed Bezos, or do they have that much more volume that they can afford to cop the penalties?
@Rahul-Balaggan your wording implies Yen gets different rules then?
-
Yen Press has a publisher, Hachette Book Group, and they operate under them, so they are not beholden to the KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) rules
