I've heard a lot of very good things about the 5 centimeters light novel so I wanted to ask, can I read 5 Centimeters Per Second: One More Side without having read the original 5 Centimeters Per Second light novel? From my understanding it's basically the same story but told from a different perspective and with added details, is that correct?

Also, I am new to these forums, so Idk if it's allowed to talk about other series that aren't from J-Novel, so I apologize in advance.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

Coincidentally, I think that novel was actually licensed in my country. IIRC, the novel is exactly like that, but there might be some context regarding the situation of the main characters that you might not immediately get. You can still enjoy it though.

TBH, I watched the movie at a bad time. Despite being really beautiful, I found it so soul-crushing, I stayed away from the franchise ever since.

@shrike_al I watched it a few years ago and felt like I didn't enjoy it as much as I was supposed to. Usually, I'm a sucker for these types of things but for some reason, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was because I wasn't paying much attention or some other reason (Idk it was a long time ago now) but I'd like to give it another try with this light novel! Thank you for your reply tho!

Voices of a Distant Star wasn't that cheery either. I did like The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

After 5 cm I've avoided watching his later works, but perhaps they're light and fun-filled romps?

@HarmlessDave Not exactly light and fun, but you really should at least watch Your Name. It's amazing.
