New volume delays in the first half of 2020
-
Hi J-Novel Club readers,
You may have noticed that there have been delays between a volume ending and the next volume starting for a few series in the past few months. These delays are due to a combination of JNC working through our license request backlog and complications with the COVID-19 pandemic.
As you may know, we license volumes, not series; so when a new volume of an ongoing series comes out, it has to be licensed separately; and for long series, we don't license the entire series at once, just a small batch of volumes. This means we periodically have to send more license requests to the publishers, which is a process with many steps and back and forth. The pandemic and difficulties surrounding quarantine have caused delays on both sides of the process, so there are some volumes that are still being licensed at the present time.
The series with notable delays include but are not limited to:
- Banner of the Stars
- Otherside Picnic
- Outbreak Company
- How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord
- Ascendance of a Bookworm (MANGA)
We're sorry that we are unable to deliver new content for these series to readers in our usual timely manner, but we appreciate your support, understanding, and patience in the interim.
-
certainly understandable. Thank you for keeping us in the loop (this type of communication is one of the things I love about JNC) also, since 'my cup runneth over' with quality prepubs, including several new releases, this is not as painful as it otherwise might've been.
Stay safe y'all

Any word on "Welcome To Japan Ms. Elf" Volume 5? Really looking forward to that one.
-
@lighthawk96 The translator for Ms. Elf works on multiple other series but only has bandwidth for one book at a time, so it will be quite a while before volume 5 will begin translation.
-
I have been honestly surprised by how little JNC has been affected by Covid and so this is not surprising. However, given how much is still continuing to come out, this is at worst a minor bump in the road.
-
Considering the circumstances that we are in I can't really be upset with you guys. I do hope the delay isn't too long though.
-
@myskaros 🙁😢
-
This discussion makes me wonder a little, is there any series that J-Novel got really deep into translating that the publisher decided not to liscence any further volumes?
-
-
@LegitPancake Nah, I still have it, but it's obviously gonna have to stay where it is. Also, there are SO many stories coming out of JNC now that you really aren't missing all that much. New Life+ isn't really a standout title (aside from how much it sold, because hot damn that was good money. Why do you people even like it so much?) in the isekai pool, and I feel like you can get a very similar experience in works like Arifureta or Smartphone, both of which are going strong and have tons of content.

Huh. I did not know that. Is it weird that I think it’s oddly cool?
-
@EmpactWB I think it's oddly cool as well. 😉
-
@DeiLight
I liked it and was very sad to see it shelved. -
@lighthawk96 I’m right there with you. But when I read about apparent implications that Renya was involved with the Nanking Massacre and reread it with that in mind, I couldn’t fault anyone for backing away from it. I’m not sure why that wasn’t a dealbreaker for me, if I’m perfectly honest.
-
@EmpactWB honestly, I read volume three after knowing of the implications and I couldn't enjoy it. For me it was like reading an isekai light novel where the hero is implied as being the reincarnation of a famous Nazi in charge of the gas chamber.
-
I was searching for if there was an announcement about the delay for Banner of the Stars v. 4, and ah, I figured it might be something like this. I have a lot to read/do in the meantime, but I hope y'all are safe, and I will be looking forward to continuing the series whenever it resumes translation. Thank you for the update.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the conversation, but this isn't really the topic for this discussion. As stated, the series affected by this particular delay are listed in the opening post. Please feel free to make another topic to discuss other series.

Is the release of Volume 6 of My Next Life as a Villainess also being affected? The Amazon page is completely gone for some reason and it was supposed to be released in a few days.

No, Bakarina 6 was not affected by this, this must have just happened in the last few hours because it was up fine earlier today............ We're looking into this right away, but we've been having a lot of trouble with Amazon removing our books recently, and they aren't being very cooperative in helping figure out why it's happening or what we can do to stop it from happening.

Amazon IS listing the march 2021 preorder for volume 6 LN in paper, with no cover picture.

I wander if this is related to the Kindle version vanishing?
I also see that volume 5 says the publisher is J-Novel Club, while the above listing for volume 6 says J-Novel Heart.
