Prince Herscherik Premium Ebook Error
-
Today, I've downloaded the first premium ebook for The Epic Tale of the Reincarnated Prince Herscherik and noticed upon opening the ebook, that all color illustrations are at the end of the book (plus one double cover image with text), together with the textless bonus illustrations. It feels really weird, so could you put the illustrations with text in the beginning like in all the other novels?
-
@Liber-Monstrorum They moved the illustrations to the end of all premiums in response to Amazon removing some LN with spicey images in the front.
-
@Liber-Monstrorum Color illustrations are being put at the back of novels to deal with Amazon banning books. It is not an error.
-
As others have said this is intentional

- For books that have been affected by the Amazon situation, we are converting them all to "color images in the back" before reuploading.
- For series that are longer than ~6 volumes, we're making a separate "Amazon version" with the color images in the back. Buying it on Kindle will have color images in the back, but premium/other webstores will be in the front.
- For all ongoing, unaffected series, color images will remain in the front for the rest of the series.
- For new series that haven't had volume 1 release yet and all future new series, color images will now be in the back instead.

@db0ssman @SomeOldGuy @Rahul-Balaggan I understand it with the amazon ebooks, but not with the premium ebooks, there needs to be differentiated between the two in my eyes. And there are no spicy illustrations in this volume...
Please don’t do this weird thing for the premium ebooks, they don’t feel that special anymore, if it’s like this. -
@Liber-Monstrorum It was mentioned in the other thread, but some people have made requests to move the color images to the back of the ebooks, independent of the Amazon situation, because they don't want to encounter potential spoilers in the color images. So when it comes down to it, it's a matter of what you and some people want vs. what some other people want (while others don't care much either way), and the Amazon situation simply provided the extra weight to shift the scales the other way.

@Liber-Monstrorum We are sorry that this frustrates you, but it is a lot less work to maintain only 2 versions of an ebook than 3. Ebooks are compiled and maintained manually. If we ever have to make corrections or updates, we already have to do them twice, once for premium, and once for normal. We're only making Amazon versions for series that are so long that it would cause too much work at the moment to reupload the new versions across every platform. We don't have a lot of staff, so this is the solution we've chosen that causes us the least amount of work, both now and in future.
-
It sounds like they're asking to have just the premium edition left alone which by what you're saying is already maintained as a completely separate item.
That said, I don't personally really care if the images are at the front or the back. If anything I'd rather they show up in the area of the story for which the picture applies, but that's probably way too much work.

@myskaros Yes I realize that, but you specifically pointed out that premium editions are maintained completely separate from the versions that go out to the other retailers which contradicts the notion that it's creating more work because you're needing to maintain a second version as you're already doing it.
I'm going to guess that the reason to maintain this alignment across all editions following what you've outlined is because by maintaining the images in the same position across all platforms, in the event there is a correction, it's in exactly the same spot across all the versions you need to make the fix on.
-
@jpwong The only difference atm between premium ebooks and other versions are stories you find at the end. So not really much difference (except the HQ images). So why should they make themselves even more work if this is the easiest solution and one many approved (and as the saying goes at the wedding, who is against it speak now or be silent forever). Sure they are two separate books but if you differ them further with placement of images I can already see one book out of hundred were the quality check did overlook that the image is in the wrong position.
And if anyone really cares so much about the placement he can easily change it him/herself. But this is work... so...
Oh and maybe a little shower thought for the grey cells. Why are we even used to having the images at the beginning? Because all LN have this? Yeah but we don't whine about this in any other Novel format.

@saskir I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone's given that I've seen about the image placement is that "the Japanese version is that way" which really doesn't make much sense. I believe one of the staff, or other users have pointed out that the ONLY reason it's like that in Japanese print volumes is due to how the physicals needed to be printed (not to mention it serves as advertising for people who flip the book open in a bookstore). Basically no reason that really applies to an ebook.
Like I mentioned, the biggest benefit to maintaining the same layout in both versions is correction fixes like typos. The idea being if you need to fix a mistake on page 36, it's on page 36 in every version that it needs to be fixed on. That's where your effort saving is going to happen. Something like the pictures being in the wrong spot would (I hope) just be a one time fix same as if QC missed they were in the wrong order or that one was missing.
Though now I have an actual question regarding the books where the bonus is HQ versions of the images. For the series where the images will be placed at the back of the book, will JNC simply omit the normal normal resolution images on the premium edition? After all, if the images are at the back, and the HQ images are also at the back, all you end up with is the same images repeated except one is in a lower resolution.

This topic is starting to drift, the main purpose was addressed so I will be locking it down.
