Paladin and VRMMO up for catch-up reading for November!

Did everyone catch up to the latest volumes of all our launch titles? Now that it's november, we're cycling in 2 different series that members can now read all volumes of for the month... The Faraway Paladin and Paying to Win in a VRMMO!
VRMMO is on its final volume right now, so catch up and be there for the climax. It's turned into a series with a number of really complex and well written characters... and Ichiro.
The Faraway Paladin is hands down our most acclaimed series, with a translation so good I wish it was eligable for an Eisner award... Volumes 1,2,3, and 3.5 are all fully available to read for members!

VRMMO is very fun (especially the first issue). Hope people give it a chance. I still need to catch up. =]
I'm all caught up on Paladin now, though I could reread some stuff I guess.

I own all of Paladin. Lost track of VRMMO, so I'll likely take the chance to read further. May buy it. No, I don't have a problem, I'm not an addict. looks at his library and weeps :)

@terrence I agree, I think VRMMO is a pretty great series (I’ve read through volume 4). My only issue with it is that the first volume makes it seem like a slightly different series than what it becomes, more plot and action less slice of life character stuff, and so I didn’t really get volume 2 until readin the next two.

Grimgar seems to still be available to read in full right now, though I'm not sure if that's intentional.
Also, I think I can vouch for Paladin being JNC's best series by far. Now I'm sad to remember that we won't get any more new material until January :(
Never tried VRMMO, though I might for this event. Not sure if I can read 5 volumes in 1 month though haha. -

Never tried VRMMO, though I might for this event. Not sure if I can read 5 volumes in 1 month though haha.The first two volumes are really good, so definitely check those out. The third volume is weaksauce (physical novel original I believe, wasn't in the web novel), and the fourth volume finishes the story the third volume should have concluded. I haven't read the latest release (5?). Gotta catch up on Realist Hero first I think, then Grimgar, then...

@terrence Ok thanks for the tip! I'll check out the first volume of VRMMO this month to see if it's worth my time. I haven't read Realist Hero yet either, I wish it were a part of this month's event :/

Knowing that VRMMO is on its final volume I'll probably make the effort to catch up. I remember it starting near-Christmas last year and that was enough to leave me without the time to give it a proper chance. Now that some of the other series I'm reading are finished or caught up I have a bit more time to give second chances to stuff. :)

I've really enjoyed Paladin, into Secondus atm. So different to all the other transported/reincarnated in a fantasy world stuff (J-Novel or otherwise), even with the OP main character getting rid of the RPG like elements, and haremshite, make it stand out.

Thank you for choosing to cycle "a" series (and even better for 2), so that new subscribers have something to catch up to irrespective of when they join. Otherwise I feel that you have to join only when there's a new series start or when it's open read like last month.

Just finished the most recent Faraway Paladin book. Amazing series. Reminds me very much of old school fantasy, and I love how it naturally incorporates larger-than-life stakes and outcomes without getting detached from how simply relatable and down-to-earth the characters are.
One of my favorite aspects is how it truly makes the reincarnation vital to the character. Most typical isekai stories just use it as an excuse to make "modern" references or jokes, but in actuality the "transported from another world" aspect could just as easily have been subbed by making the character from a little-known country who knows odd magic or something. While there's no particular reason Will had to have come from modern Japan, I do like that his previous life has a major impact on how he lives his new life, and it's not just a one-and-done revelation, it really informs a lot of his actions throughout all the books.
Definitely looking forward to the next book! I might check out VRMMO, but I also got Oathbringer and am eager to dig into that, in addition to needing to read The Kingkiller Chronicle at some point. If there's another catch-up soon, I'm crossing my fingers for Realist Hero or Arifureta!

I find that an interesting view, since my personal view is nearly the opposite.
I'm not really an isekai fan, so I don't want to comment too much on other series, but my impression of the common trope was the reincarnation/summoning was a way to impart abilities (OP stats, knowledge/aptitude for magic and/or fighting, modern technical knowledge, etc) to the MC.
(Non specific story comments based mainly on reading the first volume, spoilered since this isn't a volume discussion thread)

I do think it sounds like a fun exercise to see if it's feasible to extract the isekai setting while keeping the same story. What I wrote above is simply reflexive based on what you said, so I'm not certain it holds water under scrutiny.
I also want to clarify that in the portion you quoted, I was more speaking in comparison to most other reincarnation stories where the setting is extremely shallow and the isekai could be removed with a few simple changes. Faraway Paladin at least ties the reincarnation into the fabric of the story being told, and I appreciate that.

As far as "holding water" I think your comments do a good job explaining your perspective and that it's a reasonable one. I do think my inherent dislike for the reincarnation element is pushing me towards viewing it as replaceable instead of a compelling element. I still want to say the story could be done without the reincarnation element, but it's easier to say that than it is to have to write out a full story that's still compelling.
