So Justus is doing a Q+A thingamajig the author of Dark Maidens, Rikako Akiyoshi. He's going to be taking questions in the message section of this video until May 10, 2018...

...then he'll be delivering the answers in a followup video. He says to keep the questions more general about her writing, not focused on the plot of her book.

Dark Maidens is a Japanese mystery novel. Its original title was "Girls in the Dark". I believe a movie was produced based on it too. If you guys are curious, here's a link to the Goodreads page on the Vertical published novel that releases on the 29th.

Wait it says it's published by Vertical, not Viz?

          Whoops. Probably my bad.

I believe it's the same pub as Monogatari (the ones that redraw the covers with newly commissioned art, hence the redrawn cover above).

          Edit: Yeah, Vertical.

Dammit. I really like that variant cover.

Akiyoshi's works has been steadily translated in where I live. She's a pretty prolific, yet not that well-known author.

For those wondering what kind of book the novel is, it's kinda like Akutagawa's Rashomon but set in an all-girls school and with a concrete solution to its mysteries. The premise is slightly unbelievable, but it's pretty good.

Wow so Vertical is finally publishing a light novel digitally as well as physically?

Oh, I didn't even realize that was a biggie (since I don't read much Monogatari). I did see the novel when searching earlier on Google Books though.

Sadly, Yen On isn't releasing "A Sister's All You Need" digitally... And I stupidly cancelled my old physical order before checking thinking I'd prefer it digital. T.T

This is great news! I hope they publish more of their books (Light Novels and otherwise) digitally. They publish a lot of great Japanese fiction.

wait, this is going digital?? I completely drew it off my PTR list since it was Vertical. Well, gotta get this now.

@Terrence is that final? About A Sister is All you need?? I remember that Yen On had Reincarnated into a Slime listed as physical book only until a month before it got released. We can hope.

I don't know, but I'm struggling to find it digitally. I get a lot of wrong results when I search on the Google Books app though, so it could be hidden in them (and Amazon has the physical listed alone by itself for now afaik). Yen Press' site also lists only physical as well under formats and it isn't in their digital list. =[

@terrence it annoys me that Yen’s Slice Of Life/Romance books have been physical only... Fingers crossed this and SNAFU make their way to digital.

I'm guessing this has something to do with them testing the waters? Or needing a better way of tracking sales? =[

The physical order I cancelled was two bucks less than it will be if I order it again. So now I'm waiting on a sale or something, idk (Manga Monday sale someday maybe if Amazon price matches).
