Reincarnated As a Sword // Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita [Licensed by Seven Seas]
-
Japanese: 転生したら剣でした
Translated title: I Reincarnated Into a Sword
Publisher: GC Novels (Micromagazine)
Books released: 6
Manga adaptation?: Yes (not licensed in English)
Anime adaptation?: NoWhy JNC probably won't get it:
https://curiouscat.me/jnovelclub/post/558677729Now that you are going to offer print does that mean it could open possibilities of publishers who were not interested in digital only licencing such as reincarnated as a sword
YesSynopsis: I opened my eyes to find myself in another world. For some odd reason, I ended up as a sword. Before my eyes laid a plain full of magic beasts, and so, I launched my body and flew in search of a partner, a wielder (females only).
Wait. Absorbing magic stones gets me skills? Oh hell yeah! This is fun! More, more, give me more! Gimme all your magic stones! Okay, yeah no , but I am accepting anything anyone’s willing to give.
(Appropriated from Supreme Tentacle, fan TLer)
He saves a young black catkin slave and ends up traveling as her weapon to find out why her race cannot evolve, hoping to at least watch over her until she can take care of herself.
My spiel: Just a fun adventure with a sword who can cook curry and is overprotective of his "daughter"/wielder. Without a strict overarching plot, the story kind of goes with the flow and lots of interesting events happen for Fran and her sword "Master" (Shishou) to experience. No romance, sworddad is really a dad and not a lolicon (not even any "I'm not a lolicon!" thoughts!), Fran is busy beating everything up and eating all the curry.

at least the webnovel translator is doing it at a pretty decent pace.
-
I really liked Vending Machine and this looks to have a similar sense of fun. Definitely down for it. I feel that more than most this could get picked up by someone in the next six months. I hope so.
-
I really want this one. Out of all the recommendations I have seen today this easily one of the series I want the most. I am reading it and I really want to read an official version that I can read.
-
I've taken a quick look at the LN fan translation for this one recently. I'd like to see a series with rpg style levels, skills, and such. The ones I read so far from JNC didn't have any.
I haven't checked Grimgar, Paying to Win, or Mixed Bathing yet though. Are those similar since I see them having an RPG tag?
-
@terabyte Grimgar is a hard no, it's more of an action/drama. They do formally learn "skills," but it's more just a nickname for a move like in pro wrestling or something.
Pay-to-win is pretty similar to Infinite Dendrogram, they're both VRMMOs and they take place within the game, but P2W I believe focuses more on social aspects and stuff like crafting. I've only read the first volume though.
Haven't read Mixed Bathing :o
-
@myskaros Then I'd definitely like this LN to be picked up, or a similar one :-D
-
Oof:(
https://curiouscat.me/jnovelclub/post/495912711I contacted [Micromagazine] and they were uninterested in digital only deals and refused a meeting

Ouch, there goes my hope... Well then, I guess I can start reading the WN fan translation after all.
-
@shiroi-hane Time to start petitioning Vertical or Seven Seas D: assuming YP doesn't already have their eye on it.

It's too bad that Sam can't do joint offers with SSE to get series like this. In other words, be able to approach a publisher with both digital and print, but with the digital handled by JNC.
-
@myskaros Yen is more likely, as they licensed Slime from MM/GCN already.
@Guspaz one JNC/SS title (I forget which) was a joint of sorts, in that the digital and physical licenses were separate (rather than the physical being sublicensed from HNC to SS) and they shared translation costs, but I think in that case it was that the licensor didn’t allow sublicensing, rather than flat out refused to license digital-only.
-
I've caught up to the WN translation (chapter 260), and as I thought the story is interesting. Maybe Micromagazine will change their mind about digital only down the road... (or someone else will pick it up?)
While there are all the usual cliche, there were also some unexpected twists which I liked. I won't say any more to not spoil it though.

Books released: 4
There are now 5 books. the newest was on the top ten Light Novels in Japan
-
@drone205 book 5 was also available with a drama CD, with Inori Minase as Fran and Satoshi Hino as Master.
-
I was hoping someone would license this one too bad, at least there might be a chance for J novel now that the are doing physical prints as well as digital releases.
-
Yep, same here.

Yeah, I really thought this would get announced. I think the window for this sort of book to be popular isn’t huge, so it’s best to put it out sooner than later.

Without spoilers I've been reading the WN for a long time, as of the 200+ chapters(should be volume 5 in the LNs) the mystery of masters reincarnation and Fran's tribe start getting touched upon heavily. At first the story seems a bit random as an adventure story but everything starts to
peice itself together quite nicely.Still probably my favorite adventure isekai(reincarnation)I've read yet. But I would definitely say it does a really good job of playing off the RPG tropes of literal murder hobos and peicing it together nicely for a fun adventure. I'd still love JNC to get their hands on this before yen since the both the manga and the WN are really good.

The manga on this story is great. I would absolutely love to read the Light Novel!
