世界最強の後衛 ~迷宮国の新人探索者~
World Strongest Rearguard: Labyrinth Country and Dungeon SeekersPublisher: Kadokawa Books (Fujimi Shobo)
- Author: Toowa
- Illustrator: Fuuka Kazabana
Synopsis:
Workaholic assistant Atobe Arihito fell asleep in his company's bus that was traveling for a vacation. When he awoke he learned he had died due to the bus getting into an accident, and that he had reincarnated into a world of reincarnators - to the Labyrinth Country. To his surprise he was discovered by his slave driving manager, Igarashi Kyouka, who further explains their role in this world.
In Labyrinth Country, Reincarnators are expected to choose a job and form parties to fight against monsters in Labyrinths. "Valkyrie" Kyouka had expected Arihito to work with her once again, but he declines due to his knowledge of her demanding nature. As they depart she vows to make him regret not choosing her. And thus starts Arihito's adventure as a "Rear Guard".
Why:
There aren't actually many dungeon-crawler Light Novels licensed. (Undead Adventurer kind of, Isekai Vending Machine kind of) In addition, the only other licensed LN I can think of in which the protagonist is a support-class is Shield Hero. If we take two niches and combine them, we'll have something new and interesting to read. From what bit I've read of the manga adaptation, it looks like it'll be an interesting series. Characters include an adult protagonist that is pretty clueless and just trying to adjust to this new life as a reincarnator, a girl that "died" once but become a demi-human, and the protagonist's boss that has her own issues. The world itself reminds me a bit of SAO and Isekai Vending Machine as they aren't just in a random fantasy world, but that they live at the dungeon itself. I kind of like these worlds because they're interesting to explore.

I have only recently heard of this series a few weeks ago, and I really want this series so bad. I have read a bit of the manga and this just seems so very interesting that I was to read the LN. having an adult as the MC who is the support role is not something we really see that much (the only other series I can think are Shield Hero and Log Horizon)

@drone205 Same here, I recently came across the manga. And I think the WN (LN?) has just started being fan-translated a few days ago.
-
@terabyte the WN ;)
-
Anything with a mature MC I will buy, we need more of this
-
The manga adaptation has been picked up by a new scanlator if anyone is interested.
-
interested in this one due to the story-line lore about how certain people become demi-humans.
-
looks interesting / different
