Nejimaki Seirei Senki – Tenkyou no Alderamin
-
Would love to see this translated in English! Only seen an official translation in French =(.
-
This totally NEEDS to be translated to english!
-
Very good series.
I think some may hesitate to pick it up exactly for the reason that the author does not cater to fans and writes the story that he wants to write. To me that is a plus but it looks like some fans ragequitted after some plot surprises.I'd definitely buy the series if someone were to translate it.
-
Amazing series, I love it and would totally buy it if you translated it.
-
Here is how it ends(that´s also reason why FTL was dropped)+since we will never get it licenced soo her you go!
-
I really would still like this one to get TLed all the way through. Won't give up complete hope of some crazy late localization.
But I know what I'm reading if I learn Japanese. (This and the Pilot series among the Fantasy works).
-
@TheRedJet Thanks for that, I always wanted to know how it ended
-
This is really one of my favourite light novel series. If J-novel does license it, I'll definitely buy it, no hesitation. It's one of the best strategic warfare novels out there.
-
I loved this anime and honestly I wanna know more I would love to see this book too
-
I'd love to have this translated aswell. Giving my support for j-novel to pick up this one!
-
Loved the anime but hated being left on a cliffhanger, and even worse when there's no translation past the 8th volume so you can't complete the story without MTL or learning Japanese. An official license would be much appreciated and guaranteed to be popular.

That's an interesting take, given that our sales have not borne that out for all of our other licenses of series with old anime ;)

I am curious:
I am assuming that JNC gets some profit from memberships, and doesn't rely entirely on ebook sales for revenue. If my assumption is correct, can a title be popular without selling well? i.e. if lots of members read the prepubs, does JNC have an idea of how many views a particular series gets vs other series? are FMP, Slayers, Brilliant Park, IS etc. popular by that metric?
I apologize- this is my 2nd tangent post about 'voting with your wallet' - If I need to start a new topic I can -
@Jon-Mitchell Since you have a lot of questions and interest, I'd start a new topic. I don't really know the answer to your question, just educated guesses.

Yeah. I'd love to see JNC license more older series that had anime adaptations (including this one), but from what's been said on the topic previously, it sounds like they don't usually do all that well, which I find quite sad given that that's what I'm by far the most interested in reading. Either way, I don't know how anyone can know for sure that something is going to be popular or sell well. IMHO, this series should be one that sells well, because I think that it's good enough to deserve that, but that doesn't mean that it actually would be.
I'm reminded of how the School Rumble anime apparently did quite well for Funimation, whereas the School Rumble manga apparently did poor enough for Del Rey that they later on switched to omnibus editions and never finished it (though fortunately, Kodansha did eventually publish it digitally). Alternatively, Legend of the Legendary Heroes apparently did very well in print in Japan but didn't do well as an anime. So, even the same property doesn't necessarily do well in different mediums. Any license is a gamble on some level.

All I can say is go out there and spread the word, make sure fans know it's available, and that good sales means increasing the chance of other series in similar situations (had an old anime) get licensed.
-
In this particular case, I'd wager the best hope is strong sales of Reign of the Seven Spellblades. If that tears up the charts (and it should, it's really fucking good) then maybe Yen Press will look at the author's back catalog.

It depends on the series though. If it's a series that carries its own weight like Alderamin then there's no doubt it will be popular, but if it's a more shallow series then of course it can't do the same with just an old anime adaptation to support it.
There are plenty of novels from JNC with no anime adaptation at all and they're still popular because they carry themselves.
-
@Shaddohh My point was "guaranteed to be popular" and what you said just now, "carries itself," neither of those are objective measures of sales-generating numbers. What is objective is "older series that had an old anime which probably will not get more anime." We have plenty of series we already translate that are in that category, and they haven't sold gangbusters, so, objectively, there's little reason to believe Alderamin would be any different. @doceirias provided a much better measure by which to predict sales, though, which is "track the sales of a different series by the same author; if it does well, then it can be worth considering that author's other series."
-
@myskaros well if we're playing semantics then there's not really any objective indicators of guaranteed success for entertainment mediums. Of course there's always a chance ANY series will fail, and I wasn't asserting otherwise, but Alderamin is widely acknowledged as having creative depth. That is what I meant when I said it carries itself. I love the series for that, clearly many others do too, and while that's anecdotal and not absolutely guaranteed to translate to direct sales it is still a good indicator of interest in lieu of more concrete information.
TL;DR: I just wanted to add my vote to this series and wasn't making an argument that there's no chance for it to fail in sales, but I still predict that it would perform well.
