Magi's Grandson / Kenja no Mago

I would also buy the LN in eBook format for
The Sages Grandson -- Kenja no Mago -
I watched 1st 2 episodes last night (Available on Funimation and HULU in the USA) MC dies in modern Japan, reincarnated in fantasy (swords and sorcery type) alternate world, grows up to be broken/OP, attends the academy of magic and hi-jinks ensue. Could be cringe-worthy cliche if it took itself seriously (the anime at least does not) Many instances of subtle humor mixed in with over the top overt comedy. (as of today) not much in the way of plot - but, like I said, I've only seen 2 episodes so far. I'm liking the tone, the poking fun at tropes, etc.
I'm not sure how much some of the things I find humorous are in the LN (Carriages that look like SUV's, various anachronism stew) but I'd like this to get licensed if the LNs are anywhere near as good/funny

I think it has nice sweet romance, no overbearing harem trope. But the issue I have with this story, is how the story went from 0 to 100 in a few manga chapters. Basically, his adoptive grandparents killed a demon when they were young and become famous for it. Their grandson ended up killing dozens of demons during his first year in academy and there is no shortage of demons to kill!
The evil guy has absolutely no beef with main character, in fact, he wants to let the main character be alone. However, evil guys lackeys are afraid of the main character and decided to mess with him. Every plan they come up fails miserably, yet they still manage to escape with their lives intact, we end up recycling the same villains over and over again.
The king of the country where MC is attending academy is unbearably naive. MC makes enchantment that can make his soldiers pretty much invincible. Instead of putting it into mass production and equipping his army, he goes "We must keep it a secret or other countries surrounding us will want it and attack us". Does not really matter when you have an army that can't be damaged by conventional weapons, you dolt!
In my opinion, the romance bits are sweet, but the story has too many dumb elements in manga, which will probably stand out too much in written form. I'd read it when I run out of reading material and feel desperate.

@zing All you said is absolutely true and this is one of the main reason why I want to read LN before Manga or even watch anime. In manga and anime the writer skips a lot of explanation (more in anime) which gets explained in LN. From what I have heard LN is quite good for this series as it explain in details the magic MC does and King's hesitance in using him as his country's soldier.
This is just like Smartphone all over again or better Master of Ragnarok. Smartphone covered three and a half novel in its anime and Ragnarok covered around 7 and both of them had 12 episodes.
Animes like Overlord, Log Horizon etc are some of the examples which are true to their material source and are not skipping much.

@smiley_101 It's true that anime and manga sometime cut explaination but here it doesn’t make more sense in the LN, it's still the same vilain every time, the reason for the MC to be op still doesn’t make much sense, so do the magic system and the romance is annoying being incredibly slow with character whose sole role in the story is to slow it done even more.
The best version is probably the fantrad because translator note make it a good comedy.

I really hope they add this to the list!

While I would have liked to see JNC get this one, I have a feeling that if they were going to pick it up, it would have been before the anime came out.
It's hard to capture the boost in sales that the anime would have given afterwards. -
Bumping this again, because no one else has the license right? I'd love to see this here.

...for a moment I couldn't tell if you were talking about this title or the Pokemon anime and Team Rocket. :P
Anyway the anime is pretty fun so far but I'll hold off on giving my upvote for now since it's still a bit early to judge how much I'd want this in LN form.

I saw that there’s an anime for it. I think it would be great to get to read the novel for it.

Would love to see the LN for this aswell

WOW this has a lot of votes on it. I can see it getting 100 votes. I hope this gets picked up.

Having read the web novel (which is half decent in terms of pacing, with very little filler) and the manga, I find it quite enjoyable, especially because it is not the typical dense MC kind of scenario with a harem (though it does appear that way for a long time).
The anime, though not brilliant, has been enjoyable, so this if license would be favourable for me. -
I’m actually a bit shocked no one has picked up the license on the light novel series yet. Out of what’s released for the anime to date, it seems like it would be a fun read. It’s also staying high on the Crunchyroll popular anime tab for now (was 2nd behind Shield Hero when I binge watched the 8 episodes today).
-
@toadster well let’s just hope it gets picked up soon by someone. But there is a manga version so people can read that when they wait for the light novels. Plus it is at 80 votes on it so there has to be a big chance of them considering it. Let’s hope it reaches 100 upvotes

Oh sweet summer child.

@myskaros is it so bad to dream
I mean I know I am not the only one that wants it to be picked up. -
@myskaros he definitely doesn't know the pain the fans of "Chivalry of a failed Knight" are enduring. Currently at 116 votes and nowhere near of being picked up

this Kenja no Mago would be great, as for 'Chivalry of a failed Knight', I found it not so good as an anime but I have seen translations of the LN out there. I found it as an anime though cause I was trying to find out the name of the anime that I had seen where there are either an all girls school or just many girls that are riding horses & jousting if I remember correctly. with a guy that works in the stables & helps one of the girls when her horse runs wild & then helps train her.
would love to know the name if someone knows it & if there is an LN & Eng trans version of it.
