full of coded references to Nanjing massacre
Besides the 3712 kill count, do enlighten us, where are all those coded references in the story?

Besides the 3712 kill count, what were the other coded references in the story?

@terrence if that's all that's pretty sad how they got over reactive over just one paragraph for the chars back story. The manga even shows he hates those who commit war crimes in volume 5. So I think his apology should have been more than enough yet people are over reacting .
-
@bryan It's not "just" the one paragraph, there are many factors put together (including a lot of overreacting, yes) that culminated in Chinese companies saying "we don't want to financially support this author for various reasons" and pressuring Japanese companies to pull out too.
-
@myskaros it is JUST that line in the story, nothing else in the story refers it other than that initial back story for the char. And simply because a minority of ppl complained about something shouldn't give them the right to take away something many ppl do enjoy. Heck im Asian and I don't feel offended by this story at all. And my grandparents lived through those times when it happened. If you don't like something DON'T BUY IT, no one is forcing anyone to buy his books, they should simply get a life and find something else they enjoy instead of ruining it for others.

@terrence if that's all
There was also this:
from alocervancouver:
Ren'ya is not wearing just any uniform (I expected the standard 98), that's the Type 5 officer uniform. It's basically the Japanese equivalent of the Totenkopf uniforms and have a specific association with the "extra innings" officers. There is no mistake on the context, there are standard uniforms that could have been depicted instead, this was a conscious decision on the author's part.https://forums.j-novel.club/post/22446
It was that in tandem with his racism on Twitter.
-
@terrence So we should start inspecting what every single artist/actor/creative person says online? Cause there is a lot of shit storm happening on social media if you didn't know. So what if he twitted something 3 years ago on twitter, he hasn't forced his opinion in the story or down your throat.

Yep, that's what all the Chinese companies did, and these companies financially supported the anime and HJ by licensing his stories. Then when HJ realized this guy was costing them business, they also stopped "buying" his stuff.
Also, I have the impression that you're not clearly following this story if you're still convinced it was "just one paragraph and everyone went crazy;" as @Terrence expounded, there are also explicit references and his attitude towards China and Korea on Twitter. If you're not bothered by it, good for you, but you unfortunately are not the financial support he needs to keep publishing his books, and the people who are his support were bothered, either directly by his conduct or in the aftermath of the fallout.
-
@myskaros I don't think you follow the story, cause I read both the LN and the Manga, and the only reference to that was simply that 3712. Nothing else made Renya seem like someone who would cause war crimes such as rape and pillaging. HE hates being in debt, does not give in to sexual advances, kills and tortures ppl who goes against order, and somehow he is suppose to be this monster that commits war crimes such as rape and pillaging? Pretty sure you didn't read the story. And guess what we do support the artist by buying his story, so even if we aren't a main sponsor like a big company the fans do make a difference in helping the artist by buying their products.
Also if you really want to go all PC on this, you might as well boycott all Chinese stuff too, cause they say racist things about the rest of the world all the time since they believe they are the best. I know that because I use to live there and I can read Chinese. Just read any state news paper (They are all state newspaper due to censorship by government) and you will see how much they bash the rest of the world calling them dogs. Good luck living without any Chinese made products.

I meant the story about how this all blew up.............................................
I clearly said there was a lot of overreacting, why am I being attacked now?
-
@myskaros Once again I enjoy his story, do I care when he talks shit about ppl? I'm pretty sure everyone talked shit about someone or something before. Many of us talk shit without realizing we are wrong or if we are right. When I lived in China, the education system brain washes you to think everyone outside of China is evil and China is the best place on Earth, so I wouldn't be surprised for him to think of his own country as the one right in history and the others as the wrong. There is no villain in war, only justice on both sides is a famous saying, since no one believes they are wrong when going into war now do they?
And me pointing out a flaw in your argument is somehow a personal attack now... Great. (If you don't like debates don't do it.)
-
All right, other forum folks, I leave this person to you, I am throwing in the towel.
-
@myskaros Great, i mean if you can contribute to the debate do so, if not well I think we reached a conclusion.
-
"We" being "You".
It's like you think that the Chinese publishers are obligated to buy his books.
They saw stuff that makes it look like the author supported the Rape of Nanking. They have no obligation to publish his works, and no, it has nothing to do with evil SJWs or whatever. Hobby Japan saw it was losing them money and causing them controversy, so they stopped the sales. It's very likely the decision was purely economic in the long run.
Frankly, you sound like an entitled twit.
-
@dtta Pretty sure they haven't seen any financial backlash within the span of a few days that fast. And by we i meant the fans, obviously I'm not the only one upset this series is getting cancelled if you simply scroll up (there's more people in the world other than just you. The world doesn't revolve around one person). The only entitled ppl are those who complain about things they don't like and don't want others to enjoy it simply because they themselves don't like it.
And yes maybe it would have an effect on them from the Chinese publishers, but no one can say for sure what was going on behind closed doors other than this one Chinese person complaining about the book and everyone over reacted after.
-
I never said you were the only one. But you are one of the most vociferous people on this forum about the issue, being rather confrontational if anyone disagrees with you, implying negative things about people who dislike the author's actions and actually do think it's telling what he did.
You're allowed to like what you like. You can disagree with whomever you wish. But it gets trying listening to yet another screed about how it was obviously due the evil complainers.
I note as well btw, that /four/ seiyuu pulled out of the project. /Four/. And Japan isn't the bastion of ... regardless of personal views either way, I'll use "SJW-ess". THEY think it's a problem.
So, let's tally. Four seiyuu pull out of the anime project. Loss for Hobby Japan. You're totally right, we don't 'know' that the Chinese publishers had an issue, but I think it very likely considering as Sam has said - having a good working relationship with companies is very important in Japan and its business culture. So if they had issues with a Chinese Publisher? MAJOR loss for Hobby Japan if they just keep publishing.
In a nutshell, people are allowed to be disappointed. I would be if another series on this site were dropped that I like. But I'm getting tired of the rhetoric, and frankly am >< to writing a Firefox extension to block the bullshit based on certain keywords. :)
-
@dtta like you said japanese companies is all about keeping good relationships with other companies hence the voice actors pulled out for PR and hobbyjapan suspended the light novel. And this would be totally understandable if the whole story glorified real life tragedies, yet it hasn't. The story only briefly mentioned something that links to the date in his backstory and never to be mentioned again in his fantasy world. So how is it not being self centered to want to ruin the authors job and this series, simply due to that one reference in a story not even about it?
People debate things differently. I do not call ppl names to try and discredit them however I will use their own words against them as long as its within debating territory. If you dont like to debate with me no ones here forcing you to.

This topic has gone past the point of discussion and as such I am locking down the topic.
At this point everything that had to have been said has been said and it is time to move on.
