Huh. I kind of like the idea of an underdog protagonist smashing flags, and it could be good. Sevens was good for a while, though it went on too long, or at least the WN did.

My guess was that the capture targets weren't so 'clean' personality wise to begin and perhaps MC is utilizing that to his advantage. I just bought the book so I'll check it out.

I can see where you're coming from with Sevens. Although I was alright with it because I started binging the series in one go after it was completely translated so the more chapters the better. Dragoon on the other hand I read when it was barely 50 chapters and while I liked it I feel the pacing at the end could have been handled better. Although author wrote Dragoon before Sevens so It's understandable.

it was quite interesting. i find mc the least bland out of author's previous work with is a big plus. -

@verdelishjp Glad it peaks your interest! Didn't know the second volume's coming at the end of this month. Was tempted to read beyond volume1 on syosetu but held out on that because reading with nothing beats reading an edited work with illustrations :P
On a side note, I browsed your twitter and realized you're the translator of "Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome"! I love that game. As a straight man it's the only otome game (VN) I ever played because my steam friend insisted the games hilarious and they were right

FLML definitely has a somewhat broader appeal than most other otome games. Likewise, I think this LN could sell to a similarly broad demographic. Granted, I haven't read very far yet, but I think it could be popular both with guys who aren't familiar with otome games beyond "games for girls," as well as with otome fans who are curious to read about the average guy's reaction to their favorite genre (e.g. me, lol).

i caved and read the fan translation of Vol 1 and all i can say is, THIS IS GOOD!
absolutely enjoyable enough that id rank it close to Bakarina level fun (and not just cause of the Otome Game setting) -
The manga version for this novel is at around 1/3 of the first novel. Too bad it's untranslated
