I do wish though that, other than "How Not To Summon A Demon Lord", the author's other work, "Altina The Sword Princess", was licensed as well

      alt text

      unfortunately, its from Enterbrain....

Sorry since I don't know, but what does Enterbrain have to do with JNC not getting Altina?

@drone205 1/2 Prince was a Chinese Novel rather than an LN so not really in J-NC's territory. Otherwise, I would love to see OSO licensed too considering it's a fantastic VRMMO SoL series that I've read multiple times. It's a shame that the LN fan-translations keep dying.

@seltzermx Enterbrain is a subsidiary of Kadokawa, as of right now JNC has no ties to Kadokawa, and Yen Press is 51% owned by Kadokawa so unfortunately all Kadokawa titles are off the table for now.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

Is it possible for JNC to get titles that Yen Press don't want to license?

@xftg123 I can pretty confidently say every single title JNC acquired so far Yen did not want...

As for Kadokawa stuff it’s still not that easy, just cause Yen doesn’t want it doesn’t mean Kadokawa will give it to JNC, more then likely Kadokawa isn’t willing to take a “risk” with one of their titles cause JNC is still a relatively new company.

At the end of the day it’s all about name recognition, reputation, and cold hard cash, and assuming cash isn’t the issue it’s the other 2

I want to recommend J-Novel Club to pick up <Being Able to Edit Skills in Another World, I Gained OP Waifus>. It says it is web novel in NovelUpdates, but they have been published as a lightnovel in Japan. It is isekai with a OP MC and standard harem, but it is filled with fluffly harem scenes and LN doesn't take itself seriously. MC gets OP by rearranging and editting the standard skills to make them OP. For example, he makes a magic that can erase people's memories by rubbing a dirty mop on enemy's face. It is filled with ridiculous powers that are OP in nature. It is lighthearted LN and I think it would be great addition to current collection.

Also, there can't be enough isekai.

@shrike_al Heavy gamers. They're almost hikikomori as much time as the spend in thier rooms. My younger one started to read SAO, but lost interest. His Christmas present this year was a full set of Tokyo Ghoul. I was slightly disappointed that it didn't come in a slip cover.

Some people had been mentioning that they wanted the Katanagatari novels, so I felt I should mention that Vertical has just licensed them and will release them in omnibuses.

@legitpancake Vertical is killing it with the NisiOisiN series.

Only series I'm hoping for gets picked up is the "Boukyaku Tantei" series

Edit: While I'm here, I saw this pop up on my Twitter feed. The color inserts for this other series are beautiful. Same artist behind the art in Fremd Torturchan. This particular novel is by Overlap.

"Aim for the deepest part of a different world labyrinth"

They posted a color insert from volume 10 on Twitter:

We need more green haired gals (love to see the lead love interest be green haired in a series).

                            It's not some detective novel.
It's written by Hakomari's author, Eiji Mikage and I mentioned it here a few days ago.
Actually, it's funny thing that many of the names I mentioned here get announced days later.
I want to eat your pancreas. 2-3 days later, Seven Seas announced it.
Katanagatari and before it, Satsujinki Tantei no Netsuzou Bigaku and now, Vertical announced them.

Well, it also means that JNC won't be able to get things from Kodansha Taiga, BOX and novels and they only can deal with Kodansha Light Novel.

Well, If NisiOisiN still sells for Vertical, I think it might be the next or they will get NisiOisin's Densetsu Series.
After all, Densetsu Series was finished this month.

                              Or maybe, Sekai series:
                              alt text

I think they might prefer completed series over ongoing rn. (but that's just my thoughts)

Well the title gives away that it's more than just "some" detective novel...

                                spoiler

But yeah, I haven't generally followed many Japanese author names super closely (and it's unfortunate that a lot of LN authors are one hit wonders too). It helps a bit to stay in the dark because if I do pay attention to the author name, there are certain bias that crop up for me (see Narita and Nisiosin). But it's not something I'm consciously doing or anything.

Even reading Empty Box, I knew it was well liked by the general public going in, so that carries some weight of its own (expectations may be more lofty). Of course, now that it's out in English, I've seen some people who really couldn't stomach it, so there's more than just glowing reviews out there, which is good for balance. I hear some say it gets even better as it goes, and I enjoyed volume 1, so I shall see. =]

Actually, I start liking Eiji Mikage for Kamisu Reina Series not Hakomari, it was dark, broken and captivating. (which seems like smth staple in his work, the broken characters and I am sucker for those~xD)

Even NisiOisiN, people are mostly only aware of 3-4 titles (and their spin-offs) but there are titles like Sekai series, Bishounen series, Fugitive Detective, Legend series, etc. which ain't known by that many people.

Hitoma Iruma is author of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan but he has other hits in Japan like Yesterday I fell in love with her and Tomorrow she fell in love.

Watari Wataru, Oregairu author, was involved in Qualidea Code and Girlish Number which were ongoing in the period where he wasn't writing Oregairu.

There are even authors that hit Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! list multiple times but the fame never transferred here like Morihashi Bingo, author of

At least on Bookwalker, there's a lot of authors that get one finished series and that's it besides one unfinished series after.

Maybe too soon to say she won't get anything else, but I did look to see what else the woman who wrote Psycome was up to, and... Nothing.

Of course, I haven't checked through Syousetsu (Become a Novelist?) site much. Maybe I can find some good stuff from authors I read previously that isn't published / isn't on Bookwalker there.

Is there a good way to know if something is designed as a one-shot? I see a lot of single volumes on digital stores that look like cancelled series.

Edit: That is one lonely parfait (I saw that cover before, didn't realize that was hers).
