@myskaros yeah... and anyways if you want to be technical, like 99% of "Harems" would not be Harems. but this ain't the post to delve into "Harems" not being Polygamous.

@chi-c yeah, I had an interest in that series for quite a while, even has manga adaptation, but didn’t had the time as there was always a new interesting series every few months in English or Raw. Still, might give it a look soon if I can.

          Interest increased tenfold!!

Yeah, it was in the tags on Novel Updates. I understand if the cast of characters is mostly female, some call that Harem (like Akame Ga Kiru manga).

@terrence For Ideal Sponger Life? There's no harem. It is very specifically anti-harem.

Literally, it's a plot point. Once the main character becomes Prince-Consort all the other nobles and families try to curry his favor, and they do so by constantly introducing him to their daughters and nieces, with the not so subtle hint that he should take a mistress or five, but the MC is stubbornly devoted to his wife.

Even when I saw Seven Seas Tweet about them licensing the manga adaptation of "Risou no Himo Seikatsu", people were slightly salty about it being the manga license and not the light novel license. Plus from looking through comments, a few people still want the "Date A Live" LNs to be announced for English release.

Don't get me wrong but I'd enjoy if "Date A Live" possibly gets licensed, but at the moment, the series is at 24 Volumes (counting the Encore Volumes)

I'd be wary too... except New Life Plus is a 19 volume work iirc (and counting? Still going?). I think there was a Curiosity Cat post about being cautious about longer releases, but that recent license shows they aren't totally opposed to more Rokujouma-like long / ongoing series.

But personally, I like shorter series, especially if they feel planned out to be in that 4-7 volume range.

What does Date a Live do that people are clamoring for it?

@xftg123 it’s still possible, after all yenpress is translating The Irregular at Magic High School with the main series currently having 24 volumes.

It's just a bigger risk to license a longer series that isn't super popular. With each volume that releases, there is a good chance that sales drop from people dropping the series, and it also becomes harder to attract new fans due to the sheer amount of money they would have to spend in order to be caught up to the latest volume. Meanwhile you still have to do the same amount of work to release each volume.

This is definitely more of a problem with physical, but consider that there are 85 One Piece volumes available in English right now. Even at a cheap price of $5/book, to catch up a given person would have to spend $425. If you're buying physical books, you also need physical space to put 85 books.

Obviously it's simply a calculation of risk vs. reward, so it's not impossible for long series to get licensed, but those are the big reasons there might be some hesitation over picking up a long-running series that isn't explosively popular.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

I agree. Then again it all boils down to sales.

Anyway, one thing I'm glad about though is Seven Seas licensed the novel "Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai", which will be out November 2018 :-)

The English title for that one is a doozy! xD

As far as I know, despite its ridiculous and jokey premise, Date A Live breaks its own pattern so often it creates a string of really unexpected developments. Not just with the dating aspect, but also with the plot and action scenes in general.

From the beginning, it's obviously a series you don't need to take seriously. But then it gets some serious development, you get interested. Then it becomes jokey again, then serious again, you become interested again, etc. Something like that.

This isn't noticeable from the novel's early volumes though.

@shrike_al Pretty much this. It mixes comedy and drama together, but there are times where the series is more comedic than dramatic, or vice versa.

Plus the anime's quite popular, the series is going to get a S3 soon, and also the novels have been DMCA'd by Kadokawa as well.

Sounds somewhat similar to Full Metal Panic, I've also heard that used as a positive trait when describing FMP, the well-executed cycle of comedy and drama.

Also, other than "Date A Live" being highly requested to get picked up, a TON of people also want "Classroom Of The Elite" to be licensed.

Like with "Date A Live" being highly requested, "Classroom Of The Elite" gets requested a lot since the anime came out, the light novels have been dominating in Japan, and its also another slice of life series like with Oregairu.

Plus there's not a lot of Volumes out right now. Including the side stories, there's currently 9. Not including the side stories, there's 7 Volumes (the 8th one to be released in April)

Looks like a time travel triangle? I guess I'll see. It has 3 volumes out. Of course... It's Kadokawa.

You can get the first novel of this series for free (legally? Seems it) on Kakuyomu for a limited time. So for the curious:

Call me trash but I'd really love to see Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (Oreshura) translated. The fan translations are completely dead but I'm a sucker for a self-hating protagonist and a main girl with abandonment issues.

Same here. I'd also love if their works were also published, as in a series from the "Oreshura" author and a series from the "Oreshura" illustrator.

From the "Oreshura" author, "29 to JK"

@xftg123 Damn. I didn't notice they were done by the same illustrators. What a failure.

(I really liked the Oreshura anime, but I dunno if I'd be interested in reading the novels right now.)

(For some reason, I've never been a fan of the comedic side of FMP. I can't figure out why.)
