I’ll be frank, I want Spirit Migration light novel series. The WN was being translated before, but the whole WN series on that syosetu site was taken down, so kind of impossible to have Novel Updates translate it. I would place an image here, but having some computer problems for a while.

Novel Updates Synopsis:
As an aristocrat, Merida Angel studied at an academy that developed mana users but she did not have any mana. Kufa Vanpiel was dispatched to be her tutor and at the same time he was ordered to assassinate the girl if she did not have any talent. “Do you want to try to entrust your life to me?” he asked, as not an assassin nor a tutor but as someone that was betting on his pride as an assassin tutor, to show the girl’s worth to the world.This seems like an interesting series that I could get behind.

What do you think about this idea? J-Club can post a page with a long list of light novels. People can make donations through the title they want; all donations go to obtaining licenses and paying for additional translators. J-Club will prioritize licensing titles that attract a significant amount of donations. By seeing which titles attract the most money, people can have a better guess on which titles J-Club will license.

I just wanted to say it isn’t always money that will hold back a license.
There are times when an author will actually say no to having their work get licensed, because they have certain reservations.
And JNC still has no ties with many publishers like Kadokawa and Alpha Polis so even if though the money is there the connection is not.
Best way is to keep supporting JNC as it grows bigger and bigger and when those hold out publishes can’t say no, they won’t.
The owner of JNC also has publicly stated the Patreon method of money raising is not durable for a business, and if we see what series are popular that means other companies will as well, if other companies get that data for free they can swoop in and license it before JNC has a chance.
Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

I absolutely would not want a Patreon model. A Kickstarter for some super niche thing (like drama CDs or print run) I wouldn't mind, though again, doesn't seem like they are too keen on that at this time though (I know Sam kind of said he wouldn't want to sell something that is a book bonus on its own, like some of those OVAs and Drama CDs).

After Mommy Isekai getting licensed, this may be another one to watch from Kadokawa.

It's about a girl who puts all her skill points or training into defense because she hates getting hurt. A manga was announced recently (if I read the news article I saw on my Twitter feed right). And the light novel is now at 3 volumes (Mommy Isekai had 4 released before that localization announcement). I guess the only thing going against it is it doesn't have the instant "meme / trending" potential of a Mommy Isekai, Elf Pizza, or Vending Machine.
This novel has a voice-acted trailer too from back in January.

Honestly, I've heard nothing about elf pizza, and only very occasionally a "wtf tensei vending machine" comment. They get some initial buzz because of the absurdity, otherwise nothing. Isekai Mom has both Pochi-Goya going for it in addition to the age-old morbid curiosity surrounding taboo romantic pairings.
Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Meme "Potential". They aren't out yet in English, so we'll see if they live up to it. I have seen all of them mentioned in jokes on social media in the past, though Pizza Elf definitely the runt of the ridiculous litter.
I feel like Vending Machine is going to get a lot of play and word of mouth when it releases this month, but we'll see. I feel like that'd be a fun one to put on a library shelf. Before it was licensed, Vending Machine had a post that blew up about it, 929 retweets, 1.2 thousand likes. O.o

Also, that was licensed in December of 2016... And we still haven't gotten a single volume. No wonder you haven't heard much about it, it's been years!

@terrence lately, I’ve been seeing more manga adaptations of light novel series that have been published months or pretty much a year it started, it was even recently that I came across the manga adaptation for that isekai(?) series of my class was summoned to another world, except for me.

I feel like that or the Reincarnated as a Sword would be good candidates, yeah. Just depends on how raunchy the hotspring one is (Yen Press doesn't really publish any super Ecchi stuff, right?).

There's something I don't understand about Yen's "Do You Like Your Mom?".
It's their 2nd Fujimi Shobo (and 1st Fujimi Fantasia Bunko) license, so why did they go with this one and does it mean to future license from Fujimi?
Why not smth with recent anime like Gamers or Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records or a title they have the manga for like Saekano or Hitsugi no Chaika?Is Fujimi testing the market or smth?

@bloodygaikotsu Cause right now isekai is king, they got an isekai that is a little out there and completely different.
Much like they have done in the past, Reincarnated as a vending machine much.
JNC also follows a similar path, Reincarnated as a Genuis much.

Well, those other titles already had their anime runs already. Supposedly gotta strike while the iron is hot with the anime currently airing. In the case of Mommy, maybe they're trying to get ahead of a potential anime?
In the case of Gamers! it's a SOL highschool romance, right? An Isekai, especially one with a fun twist like they've been picking up lately (Spider Reincarnation, Slime Reincarnation, Vending Machine), is probably a bit more safe to try out than that as a test case, yeah.
Mommy Isekai is also in the running for the Kadokawa Female Mascot of the year or whatever, and none of the other candidates really stand out. From the Fantasia Bunko label, here were the potential candidates:

You really think a LN without an anime or licensed manga is more of a safe bet even if it's an isekai?Reincarnated as a vending machine is a Kadokawa Shoten title, and we have plenty of those, so trying smth absurd won't hurt but Fujimi Shobo is a whole new territory and they have many titles that either had recent anime or are highly requested series.
So I don't see that a whole new series without any prior introduction to the market safe for one fan-translated volume is a safer bet even if it's an isekai.
