Like Justus was saying, it'd be great to see these mystery titles make it stateside, but the market has been dictating that we eat up Isekai more than those. I got Yume Nikki and I'll be reading Ao-Oni, so I'm trying to show my support for mystery (those have a bit of horror too), which I guess is all you can do.

I'll always bang the drum for Sakurako-san.

I would like to recommend Record of Grancrest War by Ryo Mizuno. This popular Light Novel series is additionally being released as an Anime, Manga, and PS4 video game.

That's what I want to understand.
I am not from the States or even Canada, so I dunnno the mainstream LN tastes there but I keep finding it weird that companies think the market prefers fantasy and isekai in the same ratio they are licensing their novels. (Aside from the fact that I ain't that into fantasy and isekai stuff if you haven't noticed from my previous suggestions)

It's not really that weird, the vast majority of suggestions for light novel licenses are fantasy/isekai. I can maybe name a few mystery LNs off the top of my head, but almost every fantasy/isekai that I see being discussed on JNC or /r/LightNovels I've heard of and vaguely know something about.

It also doesn't help that fantasy/isekai is usually something flashier and visually attractive, so it's easier to get anime made, plus more people are generally interested in seeing them get animated.

For me, it's the other way around, I can name mystery, romcom, psychology and drama titles way easier.
& I think the old novel market (before it collapses) wasn't full with fantasy back then....

And there's the fact that the companies that JNC deals with doesn't have that many big non-fantasy titles as well.

Anyways, I ain't really denying fantasy popularity but I still don't seeing it popular enough to overshadow every and each single genre out there~

I enjoy isekai well enough. I'd support more titles that weren't isekai, looking at my J-Novel Club stuff, if they did something I'd be interested in. Sadly, Oni and the other horror title aren't really my thing. A good mystery'd be fun, though. :)

For a mystery series, this might be more in Vertical's wheelhouse, but I'd really like to see the Okitegami Kyouko series come over. The manga adaptation was very enjoyable.

                          Okitegami Kyouko no Bibouroku

                          http://lndb.info/light_novel/Boukyaku_Tantei_Series

Okitegami Kyouko is a horrifically astute detective who promises to solve all cases in one day. However, there is actually a reason for this; whenever Kyouko sleeps, she forgets everything that happened since she last slept, so she has no other choice! Despite this weakness, Kyouko still uses it to her advantage, leaving herself notes and purposefully forgetting in order to approach cases with a clear head. As she solves more and more cases, her colleagues start to wonder: how did she become this way, and why does she still insist on doing detective work given her unique situation?

                            Sakurako-san? (Plz plz)

I still hope they give us one horror / mystery a year. Just nice to have those to diversify the lineup (but of course, they need to sell; I hope they don't give up on that genre at the response to the two novelizations).

And of course... I still want the White Album 2 novelization, which again is tough to argue for with the response to the other novelizations. T.T

From Zaregoto's spin-offs through Sekai series and Katanagatari up till Boukyaku Tantei Series and Bishounen series. (Even weird things like Lipogra!)

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru?

I loved the concept but didn't enjoy the anime much.
However, I am kinda interested in the novels.

One I'd love is the Bookstore one. Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou. Sadly it's ASCII Media Works, so not too likely. But it's a fair sized (7 volumes) completed series.

                                    Excited for the anime movie~
I love both books and mysteries so, it was really interesting.

                                    The artwork looks majestic too.

Suggested it before on Seven Seas' survey.

                                    Well, novels about books.
                                    Wanna see more of these

Another example would be Dantalian no Shoka

I completely agree with that, having various series helps give us more options for us to read. But all I've seen are isekai light novel series with the usual summoned, transported, and reincarnated MC, including them waking up as their game character or something else. Rarely seen many non-isekai light novels series, so I'd be interested in anything new as long as the story is good.

Also, does Isekai include series that are purely fantasy, medieval, or historical without the otherworld character element?

"Isekai" literally means "other world," so by definition a series would not be considered isekai without the other world element.

@myskaros alright, alright, I get it now.

But also, when I was thinking of non-isekai series, I remembered an anime from this season that's been adapted from a light novel.

                                          Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
                                          alt text
synopsis: In Fukuoka, crime reaches new heights in the seedy underworld. In the Hakata ward of the city, there are various individuals with special talent who are professional killers, detectives, informants, and professional revenge seekers. Among those, a so-called "killer of professional killers" is becoming more than just an urban legend.

It's pretty good series so far, it even has a crossover novel, Durarara!! x Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens.

However, the series seems to be licensed by kadokawa, so still need to narrow down to novels that could be picked-up.
