@followernumber1 On Kaifuku, the MC was a child raped by a priest in the original timeline. I could see enough people making a fuss about that. Even if it's from a completely fictional religion in a completely fictional world. Normies can be a pain in the ass, for some reason they keep refusing to see fiction as that, FICTION, and then we are the ones with escapism issues. Same as how doujinshi manga would be treated as child porn in some states. Them being drawings didn't matter. Riajuu go explode!!!
-
@paulnamida It happened off screen, you see that all the time on Law and Order Special Victims and it is still one of the most popular shows in America. They don't give you a detailed picture of it or show it happening at the time. Plus it doesn't glorify pedophilia and in the end the villain gets what he deserves. That's what I like, sickos get a taste of what their victims felt.
-
I read Kaifuku a bit, and was able to vaguely wince and ignore his treatment of the evil princess.
Then he mind-raped and physically raped the honorable knight, and noped out of it. I hope they don't get that one, sorry.
-
@followernumber1 the problem is light novels are still a niche medium, and when you see stuff like this and this, the fact that non-mainstream mediums aren't allowed to touch certain issues is really driven home. Of course TV series and movies can show stuff like that and be applauded for it. But when it comes to video-games and other non-mainstream mediums... it's wrong just for the sake of it. No question whatsoever to the artistic value or how the issues are tackled. It's simply wrong.
-
I don't know if mainstream media retaliation would hurt something like an erotic light novel series. If anything, it'd be great exposure and likely bring more people in.
I think the problem with a series having erotic or disturbing content is whether the core audience would reject it. Just with Kaifuku, a few of you rejected it because of its content. Is that a tend or just an occurrence?
-
@eins couldn't really say. There's certainly a lot of hate for the series. The MC is a cold-blooded murderer, a manipulative bastard, a rapist, a brain-washer, a sadist. I can see why some people would backlash at the series. But I just find something strangely appealing about the story of a broken man going down a self-destructive path in his search of vengeance, deceiving everyone around him and himself throughout his journey. The horny stuff is just a side-dish.
-
@paulnamida How is this worse than How to Build a Dungeon: Book of the Demon King? It has rape, brain washing, almost everything Kaifuku and it got licensed.
-
It also depends on execution. To me - note, to me - Kaifuku felt like something an edgy teenager would write to try to be adult. "And then he KILLS THEM ALL. And RAPES THEM TOO! HE IS SUCH A BADASS."
I mean, I've read books with rape that handled it well. But ... Kafuku was not that sort of work. :)

@eins People seem to embrace Light Yagami, and he pretty much does the same thing except for rape.

Death Note is more like a character study on power and morality. The story is curated very well to hook the reader on a pretty simple concept, then quickly goes down the rabbit hole depicting what could happen as situations escalate.
Basically, there's clear intent behind the content in Death Note beyond just shock-spectacle, whereas revenge stories tend to use the spectacle itself as the hook, and they keep doubling down in order to keep throwing out that hook. "Look at this extreme situation that makes you react so viscerally! Now imagine what the protagonist will do for revenge! Each revenge will be even more scandalous than the last!"

Not sure if these have been suggested before but I would love to see;
"Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?"
It fits with along with the other Isekai series on here, and it has a really awesome concept similar to NGNL
and"Campione!"
Awesome battle harem series with a lot of cool mythology plot elements.I loved the anime for these two, and I did read some of the fan-translation for Campione.
-
@crimsondx Mondaiji is Kadokawa territory, so that's a no go.
Not sure what the likelihood is for Campione, it being published by Shueisha. I think Yen would have a better chance of getting it (assuming they wanted to).
Me, I'm just hoping JNC will license Shogakukan stuff in future (I'd love to read Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu.).
-
Well go figure, and they've been out long enough that I know they will likely never be picked up for official release then.
-
@crimsondx as long time fan of the LN series since it was one of the first LNs I read, waaay before the anime aired, I felt that Campione's adaptation was a complete piece of shit lol. They butchered the story so much, and that anime original ending was so unwarranted I still hate it to date. But if it brought someone to come and appreciate the genius that is Takedzuki Jou, then I guess it served its purpose at the very least. I really like the amount of research the guy does, since I'm a huge history and mythology buff. I'd suggest taking a look at Chronicle Legion.
-
These Mecha LN look kinda interesting. I hope someone pick the series up (though I know JNC would be unlikely probably).
(Is that you Asuka?)
The Japanese language novels are on sale on Bookwalker. I'm tempted, but I got enough on my plate that I've not read yet.

isekai Mahou wa Okureteru
Yakagi Suimei is a modern magician and a high school senior. A genuine scholar of the mystic arts, he follows in the footsteps of his father as he aims for the truth of his world’s secrets. He was on his way home from school with his best friends when a magical circle appeared underneath their feet. On that certain day, Transportation magic!
Suimei was too late in realizing what was happening. He and his two friends, without any way to defend themselves, were sent flying to a parallel world.
…..This is the story of the summoned Yuusha’s friend who was also transported into the other world. The story of the friend who journeyed separately from the Yuusha because he rejected the duty of subjugating the mazoku army and Maou. The story of how he learns to live in another world, helps strangers, and winds up alone due to his overwhelming power.
Shinwa Densetsu no Eiyuu no Isekaitan
Once upon a time, a boy was referred to as a “War Hero.”
In another world called Aletia, the boy who had saved the Lost Kingdom, conquered their neighbouring countries, and led to the rise of a grand empire decided to throw everything away, returning to the modern era at the cost of his memories.
As three years passed, the boy who was happily enjoying his daily life was once again called back to the other world.
However, what awaited him was the Aletia of 1000 years in the future.
As his past glories became a “myth,” the legend of the youth referred to as the, “Twin Black Hero King,” begins.
Both are from publishers that JNC has access to

@paulnamida
I remember watching the Campione anime with a friend and somewhere early on, like episode 3 or 4 or something, wondering if we skipped an episode. We flipped back to the previous episode to figure out who the blond guy was, trying to figure out what we missed something. We laughed our asses off when we realized that they just skipped an entire arc. -
JNC hasn't done a mecha series yet. At least not that I've read. I'm not counting Elexis' numerous creations in Rokujouma or the manned (womanned just sounds so awkward) monstrosity in Bluesteel Blasphemer.
Yeah, I know in this era of isekai, mecha is dated, but still, surely there's one title that isn't owned by Kadokawa.
-
@paulnamida Oh yeah, I agree that the anime was no where near as good as the LN, but like any adaptation, it did its job in getting me interested in the series. I still like the anime though. Like I said, I also did read some of the fan-translated version, but I felt the translation quality was just too hit or miss. A lot of stuff just felt awkwardly translated, so I am hesitant to continue. Particularly given that Baka-Tsuki had a DMCA issued for it.
I guess my only other wishes would be just more battle harem series in general. Like maybe the DxD LN for example :3
-
@terrence a mecha series would be a nice addition to JNC's line-up, and that one is written bt the author of "The Irregular at Magic High School" so it could garner some attention from that alone since the series is rather popular. And the artwork looks nice... And familiar for some reason, never heard of that tarou2, but I feel like I've seen that artstyle before... Any info on the guy??
