Not really a light novel, although there were some illustrations in the original novels. The series had a manga series, an anime series and movie.

Vol 1 – Toshokan Sensou (図書館戦争) (Library War)

Vol 2 – Toshokan Nairan (図書館内乱) (Library Infighting)

Vol 3 – Toshokan Kiki (図書館危機) (Library Crisis)

Bessatsu Toshokan Sensō 1 (別冊 図書館戦争) (Supplement: Library War 1)

Bessatsu Toshokan Sensō 2 (別冊 図書館戦争) (Supplement: Library War 2)

      Author: Arikawa Hiro
      Artist: Adabana Sukumo
      Publisher: Ascii Media Works
      NovelUpdates
Volumes: 4 volumes and 2 side story volumes, complete

Description: (from volume 1 of the manga) Iku Kasahara has dreamed of joining the Library Forces ever since one of its soldiers stepped in to protect her favorite book from being confiscated in a bookstore when she was younger. But now that she's finally a recruit, she's finding her dream job to be a bit of a nightmare. Especially since her hard-hearted drill instructor seems to have it in for her!
Edited: (found a better series description) In an alternate Japan, the Media Improvement Act was passed that allows the government to censor all material it considers dangerous. This pits them against the state-run library system, which has the legal right to protect the freedom of expression and allow people to read all literature. When the conflict becomes violent, the Library forms a Library Defense Force to oppose the censorship and be able to fight the Media Betterment Committee. Iku, despite the opposition from her parents, enters the Library Defense Force in search of the man who had saved a book for her when she was in high school.

Reason why I'm suggesting this: I absolutely loved the manga series and would really like to read an official English licensed translation, including translations of the two side story volumes.

Spotlight time! A friendly bump to an older post that hasn't had any recent conversation and is lower on votes in order to draw attention to it.

This series would be a Day 1 buy for me if you were to pick it up. I love the anime and shojo manga. Would hope that the more shonen manga would have a chance to be picked up as well.

I was quite fond of the anime for this. A fun mix of absurd, cute and serious.

                  Stay shiny, y'all.
