One of the biggest if not the biggest mobile game in Japan/globally.

They are so big they decided to make an anime of the game/ console game/ novel.

      Amazon

      Synopsis

This is a world of the skies, where many islands drift in the sky. A boy named Gran and a talking winged lizard named Vyrn lived in Zinkenstill, an island which yields mysteries. One day, they come across a girl named Lyria. Lyria had escaped from the Erste Empire, a military government that is trying to rule over this world using powerful military prowess. In order to escape from the Empire, Gran and Lyria head out into the vast skies, holding the letter Gran's father left behind—which said, "I will be waiting at Estalucia, Island of Stars."

      Reason for wanting this

They have 21million players and only getting more and more. The game itself is not localized in the west, but has official English translation in the settings. I believe many people would like to read the novel to get to know the world better or explore it outside of the game.

Also please try to get Cygame's bonus codes for their game, they offer them for their Japanese novels if you buy each vol they give these serial codes for in game items.

      example:
【Bonus serial code information part 1】
      · SR weapon fixed gacha ticket 1 piece
      · Elixir half 30 piece
      · Soul seed 60 pieces

Does this series work as a stand-alone story without any prior knowledge of the game? Also, does it recount the main story of the game or is it more like a side story?

Yes, it's basically the main story in novel form.
The story in the game is actually pretty good, but it takes a lot of time since you need to go through combat a lot and it kind of disrupts the story flow at times due to combat all the time. If you want to kind of get a glimpse of the novel or game story you can watch the anime.

@bryan Alright, you got my vote. This looks pretty fun and I'm always up for more pure fantasy stories.

I didn't know this series was adapted to light novels too. I wouldn't mind reading them either as I wanted more from the anime. Here's the LNDB for those interested.

Spotlight time! A friendly bump to an older post that hasn't had any recent conversation and is lower on votes in order to draw attention to it.

For those who don't know, Platinum games is making an ARPG based on Granblue. Here's one showcase of the world and gameplay and here's the official website. There's no official release announced for the west yet unfortunately, but it'll probably come sooner or later.
