Can You Multitask while Reading?
-
I realized I had learned how to read while paying close attention to someone else talking several years ago, as part of a set of skills I had inadvertently picked up from playing tabletop roleplaying games. When the DM is solemnly explaining the fate of our party while I am frantically flipping through the sourcebooks trying to find some obscure intersection of rules that will get us out of this mess, we all learn very quickly to divide our attention efficiently and effectively.
Reading while eating is trivial by comparison. Having said that, my eyesight isn't the best (corrective lenses and such), so I don't read while walking, although I did so way back when I was in school. Apparently the neighbours had long and serious conversations with my parents worrying that I would be hit by a car or something while I was walking home from school with my face buried in a book.

I used to to walk back from the library while reading too... for that matter, I still read while walking - I just read on my phone though these days!
I personally don't like to mix food and books as messes will happen - accidents happen often with food and a divided attention. I can try to have a drink, but I have to stick to cold drinks... hot drinks go cold waaaay to quickly when I am reading.
The reading while on the loo though... results in dead legs...

Im just going to say yes I can. I have been known to be watching tv, reading a book, playing a pc game, eating lunch, and talking on the phone all at the same time. And tell you exactly what was happening in all of them. However I do not drive and read. I usually listen to Apple Music through Bluetooth connection. Don’t want too many distractions while driving. I do read if I’m a passenger though.

Yes I do it all the time at work. Especially in the winter when it becomes super slow.
