@goldenmoonbutterfly said in Sugar Apple Fairy Tale (Suggestion for JNC Heart):

since they already licensed Culinary Chronicles of the Court Flower, which is by the same author, wouldn‘t the chances be higher for J-Novel Club to get the license?

Author doesn't matter for that, only the publisher does.

One of the best examples of that is FUNA, whose three series all have different Japanese publishers and different English publishers.

Extensions of a series are another matter; side stories and fanbooks are most likely to get liscenced by the same publisher as the main series. This is simply because keeping everything together make things easier for readers to find, and thus purchase.

In this case: The publisher is Kadokawa, so if anyone were to liscence it, it would most likely be either Yen Press or J-Novel Club, or Kadokawa's new English label. It doesn't seem to fit the types of series that Seven Seas tends to go after.

@piisfun What is actually the point of discussing now which publisher will get the license for this novel?
We will see it anyway when the time comes, which publisher got the novel in the end, be it either Yen Press or J-Novel Club. I myself really hope it will be J-Novel Club, since I prefer their superb translation and I also want to buy the premium ebooks of this novel. If Yen Press would license it, I would have problems getting the physical copies of the books, since I‘m living in Germany and it is getting harder and harder these days buying english books... Ebooks, like kindle books from Amazon would be another option, but you never know if Amazon bans them for whatever stupid reason they will have and on the other side the illustration quality isn‘t very good, because they always crop the ebook file... And a high illustration quality is very important for me.

@silver-sugar-duchess The point was to explain to a user who didn't know which factors were important.

@piisfun Well, besides the author being the same, the publisher is too. I could imagine that this would make a higher possibility for the novel getting licensed by J-Novel Club.
But for all I know, it could turn out wrong. We will see...

Read the first four chapters of the new manga and so far I really like it. Although the art style isn’t that beautiful, it is much more detailed than the old manga. I really hope they will adapt more than just one light novel volume this time.

(I still hope and really wish for that J-Novel Club will license the novel!!!)

I‘ve read the old manga adaption and loved it! Unfortunately it ended after adapting one light novel volume. The happier I am about the novel getting a second manga and even an anime. I hope this time they will adapt more than just one volume. And hopefully this will boost the chance for the light novel getting licensed. The fan translation stopped after the second volume and I‘m dying to read more of it!!! I so, so hope JNC will license this novel.

Same here, out of curiosity, which publisher do you think will most likely get their hands on the license, now that a anime adaption and even a second manga have been announced? J-Novel Club or Yen Press?

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.
