What I was most surprised by was Ferdinand using God of Darkness's unique name.
Well I thought entwinklen required the name. He is far away so it could be said the didn’t hear him. But then he did keep getting louder and strong as he cast.
I really need to do a reread soon.
-
Oh boy it's the return of the dreaded 'Wet Nurse' translation ambiguity!
-
@vilobion I also notice that the anime has translated "hime" as "princess" where Quof used "milady."
After three episodes, we have covered about 12 chapters out of 24 in volume 1. This is about 6 episodes per volume, so we can estimate 30 episodes for all of part 3. Which, given season lengths, isn't a likely number.

Except the season is already slated for 26 episodes, which is pretty close to your estimate.

I don't think the anime has even mentioned Lady Veronica yet, nor her faction.

Having read the LN, it's really hard to judge the anime. Is it at least good enough to pique the interest of new readers? My experience as a LN reader is not a reliable barometer here.
Episode three is missing many, but not all, of the little character moments that I look forward to when rereading the series.
For example, it's missing the fact that Myne only learned Gustav's name for the first time at the restaurant. And the way Cornelius snuck into the meeting. And the rivalry between Liesse and Hugo.
But they included Rihyarda bullying Ferdinand. And Rozemyne's conversation with Sylvester before the Starbind. And Ferdinand extolling the virtues of consomme.
My sense is that it's missing more than it includes. But perhaps this is appropriate given the accelerated pacing. It's hard not to feel the misses more keenly than the hits. Unfortunately I just don't have any feeling for how well the anime is doing at telling the story while still providing enough of the unique little moments that make this series stand out.
-
Well it is interesting that during Wilfried's first tantrum, Angelica moved to place herself in front of Roz.
Poor Myne getting bullied by Ferdie.
Elvira continues to be the fangirl we know she is.Next episode: the return of Johann the Gunteberg and the introduction of Zack as we prepare for the final episode that will be part of Volume 1.
We are still on episode 4 and no information on the ingredient gathering -_-. -
Well, todays episode was better (in my opinion) than most have been. The last couple were a little dry - kind of missing the “heart” of Bookworm. Today's did a much better job capturing Bookworm’s world and personality.
Loved seeing little the aspects included, like Angelica moving to stand in front of her protectively and Elvira’s love of anything Ferdinand being subtly picked up by Roz.
Still personally irritated by the vocab change. Cathedral instead of temple and princess instead of milady in particular. Both are wrong (cathedral is used exclusively for monotheistic worship buildings and the daughter of an archduke is not a princess), but I can at least understand why they used cathedral in the japanese because culturally it would make more sense to them. But princess is just objectively wrong in the Bookworm universe- how are they going to deal with the actual princesses later?!?!
-
On another note - can we talk about the bracelets?!?!
Both the [healing] bracelet used by Ferdinand earlier and the ordonnanz [bird message] bracelet used in this episode…is there ANY support for these in the LNs?? Why would Ferdi need a one?? And the ordonnanz needs to be able to reform into the bird, so it cant really be “set” in a bracelet…right?
Granted i love the idea of being able to carry an ordonnanz on a bracelet instead of in a little cage (like everyone does), but i dont think that should work…

It's only wrong in the Bookworm universe if you assume they follow your naming conventions. Rather than their own, which more closely resemble the Japanese conventions.
BTW, the daughter of an archduke is... an archduchess. More formally, Her Imperial and Royal Highness, Archduchess [Name] of Austria. Compared to that, Rihyarda calling her charge "princess" is just quirky, but not a declaration that Rozemyne is a royal princess.

Knights, when in armor, carry their highbeast feystones set into their gauntlets. A bracelet, especially one that magically fits perfectly, makes more sense than a pouch of loose pebble-shaped magic tools of various uses.

I seem to recall a discussion in one of the many threads for one of the LNs about how in Japanese, the term used by Rihyarlda (also by Justus, Schwartz and Weiss) was "Hime-sama" and tus "princess" is technically correct... Unless I am mis-remembering, which would not be the first time :P

While princess may be the "default" translation of 姫様 they are most certainly not equivalent terms.

In the LN, she is using a ring to carry the ordonnanz. We don't see how it's carried in the Manga.
@LurkingMcLurk It was another post much later but this one will do (as it describes Quof's reasonning to use "My Lady" instead of "Princess").
technically accurate as far as translation is concern but may be confusing to westerners who's concept of princess is exclusive to "Daughter of the Sovereign" -

At this point, I'm expecting that there will be no medical examination, and the jureve plan will get revealed just prior to the autumn festival travel.
The magic practice arena looks like a 1950s school gymnasium. Really weird is the row of load bearing windows 2/3 of the way up. EDIT TO ADD: And they have mezzanine floors inside. That makes it rather a questionable place to have someone try flying a highbeast for the very first time.
Rozemyne and Ferdinand start their war of weaponizing Rihyarda against each other.
We see that when people exit a magic room, they un-fade from black, with no view into the room from outside. This is a nice little detail.
In the workshop, we see the wall is closely fitted stones. This doesn't make sense, as it is a wall made with entwicklen magic. It would only look like this if someone went to extra effort to intentionally design it to do so.

And so episode 5 has arrived where we got introduced to Zack.
We also got a out of sequence appearance of Delia and Dirk. (wasent the trombe hunt supposed to have happened in episode 4?)
Elvira and Lamprecht attacks... to get pictures of Ferdi and sweets...
Finally Tuuli gets introduced to Lady Rozemyne (who is not her "dead" sister, no sir).Next week: Wax Stencils and the arrival of Lessy... Oh yes the Concert (where many woman will faint and where illicit pictures will be sold for a lot of cash).

@shyevsa oof, hope they didn’t really ban you

I was surprised that the chibi at the end mentions getting a schtappe in the "garden of beginnings".

pre-seeding for the future so less info dump then maybe?

Episode 6:
Paper waxing worked first time --- no extended experimentation to get the wax mix right. This is pretty much expected, they'll cut such details to save time.
They took a slightly different path of inspiration to reach Lessy. I'm guessing that even mentioning the catbus was considered a risk of copyright infringement.
They haven't named Lessy! Or even explained what animal it is based on. (Ferdinand's demand that the tail be shortened was included. I'd thought this might be cut.)
Is Lady Christine in the crowd? We don't have a character design for her, so she could be anyone we don't recognize. Logically, she should be there.
We got two actual songs! One of which is supposedly the children's-anime-theme one. Does it use the theme of an actual children's anime?
We've taken six episodes to reach the end of volume 1. This extrapolates to 30 episodes to complete part 3.
We've skipped one week already, so a maximum of 25 episodes for two coers. (Did I get that term right?) So: are we going to accelerate from here on to finish four more volumes in 18 or fewer episodes, or will we get another season to finish part 3? (Unfortunately, I suspect the former.)
