@db0ssman the decision to grant Myne blue robes was made in P1V3 and the interactions between Ferdinand, the HB, and Myne are such that consulting with the archduke was impossible (problem raised, solution proposed during same face to face meeting. No external consultation possible). Now as I said, the archduke could have been informed about the decision sometime between P1V3 and P2V1, but at best the archduke's involvement can be that he didn't veto the decision that was already made.

Here's the exact quote from P2V1's prologue, which takes place immediately after P1V3 ends.
“As discussed prior, I prepared a pair of blue robes for her. Likewise, as discussed prior, she will maintain magic tools and be given work in the book room which she so desired to enter.” Ferdinand repeatedly emphasized that the terms were all what they had discussed prior to the incident. Perhaps due to his age, the High Bishop had a tendency to conveniently forget what he himself had said.
(To avoid confusion with "High Priest/Head Priest" and "High Bishop/High Priest", I'm going to call them by their names, though Brazenwest's name could still be considered a minor spoiler from the anime. The Archduke will just be called the Archduke, because his name would be a major spoiler still.)
It sounds to me like Ferdinand and the Brazenwest already understood that Myne had mana (and money) that they needed before that point, and Brazenwest had already agreed to take her as a blue robed shrine maiden.
While Myne went into the discussions assuming that getting them to accept her as a blue shrine maiden was going to be a tough sell, the Ferdinand and Brazenwest had already discussed internally and decided that it was acceptable. This doesn't prove that the Archduke was involved in those discussions, but it seems likely to me that they would have needed his approval to break from precedent and give a commoner blue robes. (Allowing her to commute from home, by contrast, wasn't something they considered, so Ferdinand had to justify himself to Brazenwest for accepting that condition.)
It's not immediately clear to me why the Archduke (or, for that matter, Brazenwest) agreed to it, since yes, they didn't know at that point just how much mana she had, nor did they know about her otherworld knowledge at the time. It's possible that Ferdinand recognized her intelligence from the short time he spent reading with her, and wanted to bring her up as a political ally. It's also possible that the church was just so short of mana that they'd resort to desperate measures for any amount more.

@Paul-Nebeling I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of their usual plots. If you remember they are some plots they've pulled off while pretending to be completely ignorant of what's going one. It could happen, her joining the temple might have been one of their plots.

@Caroline I don't know if I would go that far. After all, Myne hadn't even considered joining the Temple until after she saw the book room.

@Paul-Nebeling In the anime; specifically the baptism arc, after they take a blood, there is a part where Ferdinand looks at her suspiciously and before that she had already produced plant paper an important commodity like that wouldn't fail to catch the eye of a Noble but it's all speculation so I don't know. You could call it one of my theories.

In the last chapter of P1V3 (post-Crushing of the High Bishop) Ferdinand says "I will prepare blue robes for her. Her primary job will be the upkeep of magic tools, just like our noble apprentices. That was what we initially had intended to do had the High Bishop not lost his mind, after all."
I guess this is a bit ambiguous, because he says "that" was what they intended; it could mean [upkeep of tools] only, or [preparing blue robes, with upkeep of tools]. My original interpretation was that they had gotten permission for blue robes in the first place, which was why he was so agreeable to it, but I could be incorrect.

Sadistically I want them to begin this season with a fast forward to the Epilogue of the concluding volume again.
Now that we know Part 2 will be fully animated I hope Sam sees this as good enough justification to licensed the Part 3 manga before finishing the Part 2 mangaplus we need to make sure to crush Quof under his workload. -
I think I might be too much of a dork because I read this little excerpt on Crunchyroll's website and noticed the author must also read the light novels like an alpha chad. He wrote 'Myne' like a true man of culture and not 'Main' like a filthy heathen.

@crowdcontrol I could wish for better, it's true. But I get the impression that they are doing their best and the reality is that a larger, "better" studio would also cost much more than there is budget for.
