I just brought I Shall Survive Using Potions! Volume 3 epub through kobo and keep getting
Unable to download
Error getting License, License communication Problem:
E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN -
I finally got Kobo to refund Potions, but now the same problem has happdned with Lady Dungeon master 6.
-
I have reported it to JNC, Simone should look into it a little later today.
-
You should report that to Kobo's support. If there's a problem with the content, they will contact us. From what I can see, there's nothing wrong on our end.
-
err, yea, no, getting through tier one is something you would have pay to to do. By the hour.
-
As I said, everything is fine on our end, the copy of the ebook I can download from the management side is the full book and I have no problems opening it.
If you're having problems with Kobo, you should contact Kobo for support. Or try a different service if you aren't happy with Kobo's support; our books are also available on this very site as DRM-free, as well as on Amazon, Nook, Apple Books, and Bookwalker!

I was adding my report of this problem for your benefit, not mine.. I'm perfectly good, thanks.

@kaelas And as I said, everything is fine on our end. If there is a problem with Kobo, you should take it up with Kobo. The error in the first post doesn't look like a problem with the content but rather the individual account. We cannot help troubleshoot that.

My last reply, feel free to have the last word after this. The past 2 new releases from JLC I tried purchasing I can not download with ADE. I get the ACSM file, but when it comes time to download the file, ADE reports an an error, and even displays the URL it is trying to download an encrypted epub file from. If I put that URL in a Browser, I get a very unambiguous 404, file not found. (that's a server generated error, clearly not a network error.)
Just to verify that all my end is working, I did buy a different book, and downloaded it no problem. So far, this only affects the latest JLC releases. I did report this to Kobo, and as I said, I even got them to refund the purchase. I gather form these messages that, contrary to your statement, Kobo did not tell you there's a problem. Maybe it is, in fact, only my account that can not download your epubs of kobo releases all of a sudden,, but I would find that suspect.
What you do with this information is entirely up to you. I have my store credit back, and I've finished reading the books in question, so I am not asking anything else of you.
Thank you.

@kaelas I'm sorry you've had difficulties. We've sold hundreds of books on Kobo in the past couple weeks and this is the first time we've had this complaint. The two books you mentioned are included.
Though unfortunately we cannot do anything about this issue, thank you for bringing it to our attention, and I hope you enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, our books!

Thanks for trying to help I've had no problem with any other books will try and contact them again thanks again

pkm61 did you get the issue solved as I have a similar issue, though with more books?
For me the situation is: I bought 9 books from Kobo, 8 of which were from J-Novel Club including Potions Volume 3 and Lazy Dungeon Master Volume 6, both failed with the error pkm61 posted along with 3 others, while the other 4 downloaded as expected.
The other titles were:- How A Realist Rebuilt A Kingdom Volume 09 (failed to download with the error pkm61 posted)
- If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord: Volume 8 (failed to download with the error pkm61 posted)
- Seriously Seeking Sister! Ultimate Vampire Princess Just Wants Little Sister; Plenty of Service Will Be Provided! (failed to download with the error pkm61 posted)
- My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Volume 4 (downloaded fine)
- Record of Wortenia War: Volume 1 (downloaded fine)
- Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! Volume 2 (downloaded fine)
- 86--EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 2 (non J-Novel Club, but downloaded fine)
I am not sure if it is just 3 people who apparently have an issue with downloading one or more of these titles. One thing I did notice is that all books which failed to download have a release date after 2019-07-15, though this could off course be coincidence.
I already contacted Kobo, but they basically blame Adobe as the Kobo app is able to download the books in a non-ePub format, thus not useful for my eReader. This could mean that the downloads could work when you have an eReader from Kobo.Though it might not be possible to do anything about it from the J-Novel Club side, I did want to bring it to your attention.

@craecker The problem is system wide with Kobo. Turns out it affects more than just J-Novel Club, and none can download the affected epubs. Some of the affected books have been fixed, and I have now heard back that Kobo developers are working on the actual problem causing this.
-
I just had this issue with a non-JNC eBook from Kobo, so it's definitely not just JNC books.

While I'm still unable to download the book to feed into Adobe Digital Editions, the book did download into the Kobo Desktop App. Presumably it also would work on the mobile apps.
Not ideal if you want to read it on a non-kobo device, but a workaround, at least.

Thanks for all the help I tried it again recently and whatever the issue was it has been fixed
