August 2019 catchups!
-
Moving into August, we have a new set of series unlocked for members to catch up on! A couple long ones, and a couple short ones :) And the long ones are close to completion, with their final volumes currently in the works! One of our launch titles, I Saved Too Many Girls and Caused the Apocalypse, has a whopping 15 volumes completed, with the final 16th volume to start prepublication soon! In fairy tales, the hero saves the damsel and everyone lives happily ever after. But what happens when there's only one hero, but lots and lots of damsels?!
A longer-running series that had an anime adaptation almost 10 years ago, Demon King Daimaou's 13th and final volume just started prepublication earlier this week! Read about a boy who only wanted to better the world... before he found out he was fated to become a demon king!
A short series complete at 2 volumes, this one is about a problem all couples around the world can relate to: accidentally turning your spouse's head into an animal's! Apparently it's My Fault That My Husband Has The Head of a Beast stars an unconventional couple trying to resolve an unconventional problem!
Finally, recently released in print, Last and First Idol is a collection of 3 short stories, mixing hard sci-fi with idols, mobile games, and voice actors! Two of these stories have won awards as well! Get ready to lose yourself in a world of otaku topics and theoretical physics!
And if you missed them, check out the new series we launched in July!

Now's a good time for me to continue reading Last and First Idol during idle work hours (can't open epub on work pc due to restrictions)
-
Finally I get a change to read Apocalypse!

@caramelwithoutthesalt Personally, I like it. I think it looks really good. I'm looking forward to seeing how it finally ends.

Apparently it's My Fault That My Husband Has The Head of a Beast feels like it didn't really resolve the core issues laid out at the beginning of its first volume.
-
@technizor Yeah, that series is marked as "complete" but it doesn't really resolve anything in the end. There's a need for more volumes, which seems unlikely at this point. If I recall right that series is something the publisher gave Sam together with another series he actually bid on. (My memory might be wrong though.)
-
@terabyte Probably Bakarina. We got both at the same time, and they're by the same publisher.
-
Caught up on Little Apocalypse; yeah, Rekka makes every other dense character seem switched on.
-
@smashman42 Pretty sure that no one can make Ichika from IS seem switched on....
-
@timmaaah That's what I thought too. Someone on here told me Rekka was worse and I didn't believe it, now I do. Honestly, there's more "progress" (IMO at least) in around half as many volumes in IS, which is pretty frightening.
-
@timmaaah Ichika is dealing with a whole Harem of Tsunderes who can't spit it out. Rekka starts the series being told in so many words that there will be an interstellar war because he can't make up his mind. Not even considering the question takes a special kind of dense.
-
Is Little Apocalypse worth it?
It looks interesting but the MC seems like he could be annoying and I got less time to read but quite a few series to catch up. Do you think that one is worth the try? -
@smashman42 @Steelblaidd There is no comparison. Ichika has actually gone on dates with girls, Akuto (Demon King Diamao) actually managed to "claim" part of his harem, while Rekka is still a clueless schlub. Rekka still reigns as the king of cluelessness.
-
@raitoiro I’ve only read the first four volumes but enjoyed it as an action comedy. If you find dense MCs funny (and I kinda do) then there’s a lot to laugh at. If you find that sort of thing infuriating I’d just avoid it.
-
Any guesses for the September titles? I’m really hoping for Gear Drive as I read a bunch of it but don’t remember where I left off.
If Der Werewolf appeared I’d catch up on that too. It’s a good series and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the next two volumes.
What are you hoping for?
-
@the-green-death Isekai Mahou personally, since the next volume is finally confirmed for October. Though we had that on catch-up pretty recently too..
-
@the-green-death said in August 2019 catchups!:

Der Werewolf was on catchup within the last couple of months; I don't think it's very likely.

I'm hoping for Grimgar, Realist Hero, and Faraway Paladin, but not all at once since I probably couldn't handle that while taking care of irl stuff. And if I end up having more time that I thought I still have piles of physical non-JNC books to catch up on.
I've read 9 volumes of Grimgar as I started collecting the physicals before became a JNC member, but I want to sell my physicals and switch to following the weekly releases. I haven't read Realist or Faraway Paladin past the previews but I like the premises and I've heard they're good so I'd like to try them.
