Rokujouma Kickstarter Campaign

@harmlessdave I only remember one KS from Nozomi, and that was to pay for dubbing a title they already had licensed and were distributing (Aria).
Creamy Mami was "crowd funded" by others, and the left-over copies were sold through distributors. (one of these days I ought to watch it)
Nozomi did one for Emma too. In both cases they added an English dub and blu-ray, while the original license was DVD only.
For Animego I think their DVD licenses had lapsed and were out of print, but I'm too lazy to verify that :)

Stretch goal 3 was just reached :D
-
Well its official we need some new stretch goals.
-
Yeah with 27 days left to go, I wonder if they maybe underestimated the fan base a little for this.
-
@catstorm Fan base estimates probably had little to do with the choices, most likely. Why is it 30 days, when the goal was reached in 1? Because 30 days is probably the minimum for KS.
Ideally, once the books go to press, more than the minimum will be ordered, and the balance will go to retail outlets.
Heck, if we're lucky, it will convince the right someone in Japan that a second season for the anime would be profitable. The original anime ended just before the major action takes place.
-
@catstorm I don't think it was an underestimation, even now there are under 350 backers, its just that people want all the books so they have to spend $250 minimum for that.

with the vast majority being invader/invader plus (about 240 out of the approximate 350 total supporters)
so far the average supporter pledged $242
(the kisckstarter is funding a print run of 1000 sets, after the project is over where are the 750 +/- left over going to be sold?)this doesn't tell me that the series is hugely popular with the public in general (or anime/LN fandom in general for that matter), rather that a group of super-fans can have a pretty profound impact.
What I hope this means is that now that the typesetting/layout/editing work is done for this print run, the physical copies will become readily available at amazon/ BN/ general booksellers etc. I also hope this demonstrates to the industry that it can make business sense to support titles that are not blockbusters, but have a smaller (but dedicated) fan base

I don't think this will be a "readily available", situation, rather a limited run situation, once they are gone they won't get a reprint.
Also since the kickstarter is still ongoing I don't believe that the typesetting/layout/editing work is done for this print run, all of that should follow after the kickstarter closes. Best not count your chickens before they hatch and what not.
-
I don't have any skin in this particular game (I'm a supporter but below the Invader level) so a physical set isn't in my immediate future (so I don't have any eggs/chickens to worry about)
what I am hoping for is:
-
that if print editions find their ways to the virtual shelves on Amazon/Rightstuff/BN whatever, that more folks learn about Rokujouma and read/enjoy it
-
that the success of this campaign emboldens JNC (and/or others) to support/revive/print/translate other works that currently are not in English / in print, that might not be current 'blockbusters' but are excellent artistically
I've seen a similar project 'bear fruit' in the past. The Vance Integral Edition was largely a volunteer project to get the works of Jack Vance back 'in print' and now they are readily available (as ebooks) on amazon or wherever.

I just submitted my custom story idea, I'm feeling kinda nervous I really hope the author doesn't hate it.

Curiosity has the better of me. Did anyone go for the Goddess of Dawn or Love is All tiers? A simple yes or no. Not asking who. (That would just be rude.)
-
All the 5 spots of the Goddess tier are gone
Love is all is still there
All $750 tier spots, and $1,000 tier spots were taken.
